Obituary
ATKINSON, Robie Walter – 88, of Stoney Island, passed away at Bay Side Home, on August 14, 2023. Born in Stoney Island, he was the son of the late Walter and Lorraine (Ross). Robie is survived by his son, David (Carolyn) Atkinson, Stoney Island; daughter, Betty (Greg) Malone, Alberta; grandsons, Chris (Jennifer) Atkinson, Jade Crowell, Shane Crowell and Skyler (Kelsi) Malone; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Carter, Jayda, Riley, Gracelynn and Emberly; brothers, Winston (Bueina) of Stoney Island, Leo (Patricia) of Brass Hill and Sylvester of Middleton; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Robie was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Georgina (Issacs); sisters, Virginia Atkinson and Joan Hazel. Robie started his teaching career at 16 years old in Port Joli and in his twenties moved to the United States where he served in the Army as a Chaplain. One of his favourite memories was being at Fort Dix the same time as Elvis Presley. After his service, Robie worked in a bank in Boston and married and had his family. He then returned to Nova Scotia and resumed his teaching career, where he was a grade 6 teacher and vice principle at Cape Sable Island Elementary until his retirement. He loved church and was very active in the church playing the organ, piano and accordion and as a choir member. After retirement from teaching he became a Pastor serving in Lockport and Port La Tour and conducting services where ever he was needed. Robie was a very kind man who would do whatever he could for anyone and was involved with many charities. The family would like to thank everyone at Bay Side Home for the care Robie received. Arrangements have been entrusted to H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Barrington. There will be no visitation or service as per his request. A private family graveside will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
