Obituary of Robert Sidney Wells
Passed peacefully away at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Care Centre on March 4, 2023, Robert Sidney Wells of Botwood, at the age of 87 years.
Robert was born and raised in Campbellton, Newfoundland. He left school in his mid teens to work with his father and brothers in a logging camp in the Glenwood area. On September 28, 1959, he married Eileen Bignell, and together they had three children Pansy, Allan and Ivan. He worked with Harvey & Company Limited in Grand Falls for over ten years, after which he worked for Newfoundland & Labrador Hydro Limited until he retired at the age of 63 years. After his retirement Robert enjoyed working in his garage as well as going off on his quad and snowmobile with friends. Those who knew Robert were always in awe of his ability to fix anything due to his brilliant mechanical mind.
Robert was predeceased by his father and mother, Sidney and Effie Wells, father and mother in law, John and Lillian Bignell, three half-brothers, seven brothers and two sisters. He leaves to mourn with cherished memories his loving wife of 63 years, Eileen, daughter, Pansy (Roger) Freake, of Northern Arm, sons, Allan (Doreen) Wells, of Birchy Bay, and Ivan Wells (Heather Tufford) of Thornhill, Ontario, five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, sisters, Marie Rideout of St. John’s, NL and Louise Cooper of Winnipeg, MB.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Care Centre, Horwoods Home Care Limited, with special thanks to home care workers, Sandra Willcott and Bernadette Primmer.
Cremation has taken place with service to take place at a later date.
