Robert (Bob) Sweedish
July 12, 1947 – November 20, 2024
Robert Michael Donald Sweedish (Bob) died peacefully in his sleep at St. Paul’s Hospital on November 20, 2024 at the age of 77 years.
Bob was born in Saskatoon to parents Flora (Gibb) and Michael Sweedish (both deceased). Bob is lovingly remembered by his family- Bill Sweedish, Brenda Gardner, Barb Morrall and John and Kim (Smysnuik) Morrall and their children Emma, Joshua, Sophia and Noah. Bob’s brothers -in- law, J.D. Gardner and Robin Morrall predeceased him.
Bob attended Albert School and Nutana Collegiate and graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with an Art’s degree. He also held a certificate from Kelsey Institute as a Chemical Technician. For the last 25 years, he worked with Cohoe Productions, raising money for the Saskatoon Firefighters Burn and Pediatric Funds. Bob found this work meaningful and sometimes challenging. With support from his manager, Tony Meredith, he continued working part-time from home until 2 days before his admission to hospital on October 20th
Bob was a very kind and gentle man who made friends with people who needed support. He appreciated people just as they were, and was often charmed by their activities and interests. He took pleasure in painting and sketching people, buildings and nature. Bob liked to share his art with others and especially appreciated the encouragement he received from his niece, Kim. Bob was moved by beautiful music and enjoyed composing and playing his melodica. He loved ideas, creativity, the complexity of science, nature and the human body. He managed his difficulties with dignity and humility and tried to keep an optimistic spirit even when faced with the diagnosis of serious heart issues in hospital.
Our family is very grateful to Joan, Community Mental Health Nurse at the Saskatoon Community Clinic whose compassion, guidance and support for more than 10 years helped greatly to improve Bob’s quality of life. We would like to thank the staff at St. Paul’s Hospital Emergency Department and 5th Medicine nurses, doctors, social worker and music therapist. It was Bob’s first experience of being a patient in a hospital and he really appreciated the excellent care he received!
A small gathering of family and friends to celebrate Bob’s life will take place in the summer of 2025.
