With sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Robert M. MacGregor, on August 18 th, 2023 at 89 years of age. Bob was born to Robert and Elma (Israel) MacGregor, May 15 th, 1934 in Sydney.
Bob will be remembered with love by his wife Louise (MacQueen); sons Robbie (Noreen), Barry (Sheila), and daughter Cheryl (Craig Ferguson); grandchildren Owen (Nicole), Corey (Milene), Lauren (Clayton Davis), Jenna (Pat Holland), Cole and Ellie; and great grandchildren Aela, Finlay, Valentina, Giulietta, Isla, Lincoln and Liv, all of whom were his favourite. He was also survived by his brother Ross (Yvonne) and sisters-in-law Sheila MacDonald and Betty (Bob) Cossitt.
Besides his parents, Robert was predeceased by sisters Joyce (Archie) Williston, Wilma (Sam) Myers and brother-in-law “Sonny” MacDonald.
As a proud “Shipyarder”, Bob enjoyed the lifelong friendships he made playing hockey for Argyle School, Horton Academy and Acadia University. His outgoing personality naturally suited him to a career in sales, and he looked back fondly on his 48 years with Trebley Brokerage. Following in his family’s footsteps, Bob was an active member of the Sydney Curling Club. He logged many hours of community service and fellowship with the Sydney Kinsman Club. Rounding out his community involvement, Bob was a long-time member of Sydney River United Protestant Church where he served as an elder.
Retirement allowed him more time to spend entertaining family and friends at his bungalow aptly named “Camp Laugh-A-Lot”. Even in his senior years, Bob enjoyed walking the East Bay Sandbar and swimming in the Bras d’Or.
Bob was known for his love of laughter and dedication to family. He was sure to add an element of fun to every day with his animated story telling and quick sense of humour. Bob’s easy smile and twinkle in his eye will forever live on in our hearts and memories.
Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 2nd at 11:00am at Sydney River United Protestant Church. Family visitation and reception to follow in church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Robert may be made to your charity of choice.
The family would like to thank the staff of Cape Breton Regional Hospital Unit 4C, the Palliative Care Unit, and Dr. L. MacInnis for the kindness and compassionate care he received during his short stay. A special thank you to Dr. Carol Critchley who Bob held in very high regard, and to David Bonaparte for his dedication and support over the past several months.
