Robert “Bob” Kenneth Reinson passed away peacefully on Friday, March 17th, 2023, holding the hands of his beloved children.
Bob is survived by his children and grandchildren: daughter Marne (Farid) Virji Of Calgary, AB, their children Sami and Raiya, and his son Jeffery (Lynnel) Reinson of Prince Albert, SK and their children, Dane, Keaton and Ella. Born May 4, 1940, in Melville, SK, Bob grew up with his mother Marjorie and brothers Donald, Bud, and Lorne, and sisters Audrey, Ivy, Mavis, Donna Reinson in a small two bedroom home without running water or electricity, with a wood stove for heat; the boys had one room, the girls the other, and their mom slept in the living room. Bob shared the story of how they would take their clothes for the next day to bed, and that it was cold enough that their blankets would freeze to the walls in winter. The family treasures his sister Donna’s family history book, as it was filled with stories of their hard work, their antics, and their family’s strength.
After completing grade 10, Bob went directly to work as an electrical apprentice and quickly became a fine journeyman electrician who worked construction jobs in his early years, going wherever the work lead, until finding a permanent electrician’s role at Ainsworth in Savonna, where he finished out his career at 65 years of age. Throughout his life, Bob was a huge sports buff, as a fan and a player with considerable skill. A goaltender in hockey in the days before masks, who took a puck to the eye in his 30s, Bob reluctantly wore a mask for the rest of his many days playing a game he loved greatly. He also played fastball and softball, and curling and golf became his favourite sports in later years.
His sense of humour and quick comebacks were among his best traits, but Bob was famously known for talking—well, for not talking unless absolutely necessary. This was well understood by those who knew him, especially his brother Don. Wordlessly working together. Knowing what the other thought, meant, was about to do, or had on his mind. These men were in sync. Their ‘conversations’ were legend in the family. His sister-in-law Audrey Reinson shared a story many years ago of a coffee they shared. Silence, coffee poured, coffee consumed, a couple knocks on the table, a nod, and they were all caught up.
In Bob’s last years, he was cared for by his children Marne and Jeff, and daily by the Kamloops Reinsons – Kristi, Guy, and Jodi helped their dad care for their uncle. Don moved in as did Kristi a few months later, taking care of Bob and the house to which he was so attached. Visiting Bob at the Hamlet during Covid was challenging, but every day they could, they did. Their dedication to being there for Bob is a testament to the family bond the Reinsons value; their mother Marjorie would surely have been proud. Their love was always clear and shared generously. Words were not needed.
Still waters run deeply in the Reinson family, and despite his quiet ways, Bob was an obviously kind man and his children and grandchildren knew this. They each felt seen and appreciated, and always enjoyed their times together with Grandpa Bob. The look on his face really said everything.
Burial Service and Celebration of life will be held in Melville, SK on August 12, 2023 time to be announced at a later date. Everyone is welcome to join us in the celebration of Bob’s life.
