Obituary
Robert “Bob” Dunn passed away at the age of 84 on Wednesday, May 17,
2023 in Lac La Biche, Alberta, surrounded by love.
Bob was a devoted husband of 56 years to his wife Mary (née
Hutchinson) of Lac La Biche, by whom he was predeceased on September
27, 2021. How he missed her. He was also a loving
father to daughter Dionne Dunn of Edmonton and daughter & son-in-law
Jacquie & Andrew Holko of Edmonton, and cherished Grandpa to Renata,
Gabriela, & Maksymilian of Edmonton.
Bob was also survived by his brother William “Bill” Dunn of
Chilliwack; uncle Roderick “Rod” McLeod of Lethbridge; sisters-in law
Evelyn Hutchinson of Fernie, Sharon Hutchinson of Lac La
Biche, & Norah Hutchinson of Vancouver; brothers-in-law James (Jen)
Hutchinson Whitecourt, Dale (Kim) Hutchinson of Fort Saskatchewan, &
Andy Doucette of Quesnel. He was the beloved Uncle Bob to many nieces
and nephews.
Born to John & Vera Dunn (née McLeod) on November 21, 1938 in
Chilliwack, British Columbia, he grew up fishing and exploring the
Fraser River. Bob was a true outdoorsman, traversing
Northern B.C. within his work with the Forestry Service and eventually
the Hudson’s Bay Company in 1959. It was his work with the Hudson’s
Bay that eventually took him out of B.C. to the Northwest Territories.
There in Fort Smith, he met and married his wife Mary in 1965. They
went on to have two daughters and their adventures as a family took
them from Manitoba, back to B.C., and (after eventually leaving the
Bay) to the remote Arctic Circle community of Hall Beach to work for
the NWT government. Eventually they settled close to Mary’s family in
Lac La Biche where Bob worked in Forestry as well as Oil & Gas with
Suncor until his retirement. His favourite place was the home he and
Mary curated on the old Mission road. Bob was a lover of history, the
Canadian North, birds, and reading; he usually had several books going
at once.
Over the years, he was involved in the community through St.
Catherine’s Parish, Search and Rescue, and the Lac La Biche Birding
Society, to name a few. He was known for telling his multitudes of
stories…oh how we now wish for one more.

funding for cure-based diabetes research in Alberta in honour of his
granddaughter.
