of Halifax, NS passed away peacefully at Camp Hill Veteran’s Memorial Building in Halifax on August 14, 2024, at the age of 85.
Bob was predeceased by his wife Trudy in 2015 and is survived by his son, Maurice (Windsor Junction), Denise (Rick) of Halifax and Diane Fillion (Lac du Bonnet, MB). Grandchildren Courtney (Andrew) Hartlen, Caslyn Fox, Abrielle Fox along with many nieces and nephews.
Bob was born in St. Ignace, NB to Eugenie and Amedee Aucoin on May 15, 1939 and was the oldest of seven children: Ernest (Zelia) of Westphal, NS; Maria (David) Doucet of West Collette, NB; Patrick (Bernice) of Moncton, NB; Anne Marie (Don) Angel of Bedford, NS; Edmond (Mariette) of Notre Dame, NB; Rosa (Don) Lavoie of Dieppe, NB.
At 15, Dad was working at a sugar mill in Saint John, NB and at 19 he began a stellar naval career with the Royal Canadian Navy and retired in 1978. After retiring from the navy he became an entrepreneur in the silk screen printing industry. He was at the helm of Aucoin Screen Printing Ltd. for 20 years until he retired for the last time. He enjoyed many hobbies, including jogging and cycling. As a member of the Halifax Velo Club, Dad has the distinction of cycling the Cabot Trail five times, including once on a tandem bicycle with a visually impaired member. Dad and Mom were avid outdoors people who enjoyed canoeing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and for many years enjoyed their sailboat, Sans Souci. On one of their many excursions they came upon their piece of paradise in St. Croix and this is when they were ‘Dunroamin’. They spent many years enjoying the company of their friends on Panuke Lake. Dad spent numerous years volunteering with Meals on Wheels, Northwood Senior Care and any others who called on him.
Our heartfelt thanks to all the staff and volunteers at Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building for the amazing care they provided for our dad over the last year.
