Robert, known to all as “Bill “ was born in San Diego, California on November 26,1946 to Elizabeth Algie and William Tetzlaff, following the death of his father at 4 years old his mother packed up her three children and returned to Thornhill, Ontario.
His mother remarried and Bill was raised by his step-father Aarne Flemming.
Bill met his wife Lillian ( Bunny ) Janes and they married in 1967. They had two sons, Gregory ( Kate and Gary ( Cindy ) who between them added six grandsons to the family. Gregory, Eddy, Gavin , Kiedis , Ethan and Kesler. Bill absolutely adored each of them, he loved to tease. He was a very proud Grandpa.
Bill left behind his sister Penny Holden, sister-in-law Dorothy Flemming, brother-in-law Hazen and Jane Janes and brother-in-law Jim Moss. He was predeceased by his sister Patricia and her husband Bill Mcarthur and his brother Roy Flemming.
Bill became an auto mechanic after finishing school. In 1974 he changed careers and became a firefighter with Mississauga Fire and Rescue where he retired 34 years later at the rank of Captain. He was also a volunteer firefighter for the town of Caledon( Bolten and Palgrave ) and for those who understand the “we Gotta’s are together again ‘.
After his retirement He and Bunny moved to Tatamagouche, NS. Where they lived until 2022 when they moved back to Bunny’s home, Deer Lake.
Bill had a very rare cancer and knew it would win the fight and he wanted Bunny back with her family around her, Home after 66 years.
He was loved by many nieces and nephews, great and great-greats.
He had to say goodbye to his two pups Miley Grace and her son Griffin. They stayed by his side cuddled in getting a head rub until he slipped peacefully away surrounded by family.
Bill spent his life for his family and gave a lot to anyone who needed help fixing or building just about anything. He had to keep busy which the cancer took away from him. He was not one to sit and watch the world go by.
There are so many to thank during his journey but especially Pastor White EPC, Rebecca Rowe RN, Dr. A Pieroway, Chemo Unit, Pal Care-CB, Community Health –Dl My Girls And Parsons Funeral Home & Chapel. Please no flowers by request but a donation to a local animal rescue.
Most of all Bill would want you to pay it forward in an act of Simple kindness. That was what he was all about.
There will be no service at this time. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
