Peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday, June 12, 2023. Rita Nielsen (nee Vestergaard) of Cornwall, formerly of Alexandria, passed away at the age of 89 years. Beloved wife of the late Niels Nielsen (2016). Loving mother of Kim Nielsen (Holly), Diane Nolan, Janet van Duynhoven, and Nina MacDonald (Sandy). She will be greatly missed and forever loved by her 13 grandchildren, Kiel, Kayla, Kristen (Kim), Carter, Callum, Macauley, Kaden, Adam (Diane), Jacob, Madison (Janet), Christopher, Sam and the late Thomas (Nina) and 11 great-grandchildren. Dear daughter of the late Johannes Christensen and the late Sabine Marie Vestergaard. Caring sister of Erling Christensen and Kirsten Peterson(late Heinrick). Predeceased by her brothers Knud, Egon, Frode (Kirsten) and her sisters Lissie Skjoldlund (Vagn) and Yrsa Adolfsen (Erik), all of Denmark. Rita was a special lady and her name will be forever carved in our hearts. We also want to say a special thank you to Bayshore staff especially all the dedicated, kind and caring PSWs too many to name (you know who you are), Dr. Menon’s compassion, Care Coordinator, Laura who went above and beyond for us, Vanessa for her dedication and compassion, and Kim who faithfully and joyfully took on the night shift, you were all a part of our family and we are grateful for everything you did for our mother. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, you won’t be forgotten. At Rita’s request cremation has taken place, and there will a private gathering at a later date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Munro & Morris Funeral Homes Ltd., 114 Main St. South, Alexandria (613-525-2772). As expressions of sympathy Memorial Donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Kidney Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
