It is with deep sadness that the Dajti family lets friends and loved ones know that their dad and grandpa, Rifat Dajti passed away on July 8, 2024.
Mr. Dajti was born in Shkoder, Albania on October 29, 1935. He graduated with a degree in Literature from Tirana University, Albania and soon after, obtained a second degree from Tirana University in Journalism. He was an avid reader, passionate about classic literature, who imbued his love of reading to his children and grandchildren. Soon after graduating, Mr. Dajti worked as a journalist for various newspapers and local radio station in Shkoder. He then went on to become reporter in charge of Shkoder and the Northern regions of Albania for the main national newspaper, a position which he held until his retirement from journalism in Albania in 1992.
He and his wife Vjollca came to Canada in 2001 to be close to their son Ormar and daughter Dasantila, who were already living and working in Canada.
For the first decade of life in Canada, Mr. Dajti continued to write and publish. His activity focused primarily on historical novels, often inspired by events and experiences during four decades of his professional life as a journalist. He was a keen, analytical, and passionate observer of major political and social changes taking place over the last 30 years in both Albania and Kosovo. Mr. Dajti published over a dozen books, mainly novels, while living in Canada.
Rifat Dajti was a patriot who embraced a new life in the West with zeal, immense curiosity, and an astute ability to place developments in his beloved homeland in the larger frame of world events. Rifat Dajti will be deeply missed by his family, friends and former colleagues.
He was predeceased by his wife Vjollca Dajti, his parents – Jonuz and Nafije Dajti.
He is survived by his children Dasantila Dajti and Ormar Dajti, his daughter-in-law Tefta Dajti, his brother Brahim Dajti, sisters Remzije (Dajti) Sokoli dhe Zyliha (Dajti) Drishti and his grandchildren, Erin, Téa, Reiden, Erlisa and Dennis.
