With heavy hearts and great sadness, we announce that on August 7 th 2024, Richard Thomas Poynting (Soaring Eagle) of Winnipeg Manitoba was called back to the spirit world by The
Creator unexpectedly in his home at the young age of 37.
Richard came from a large, extended, blended and adoptive family and he leaves to mourn many: Mother Deborah Poynting, (Melvyn) Father Leonard Crate, Sister Jennifer Poynting, (Warren), Stepsister Lacey Thomas, Stepsister Amy Thomas (James), Stepmother Hannah Mulder (Allan), Stepbrothers Dylan Ranville and Harrison Mulder, Companion: Tammy, Aunt Gail (Larry), Cousins: Allison Gilroy (Brian) and Heather Makar (Mike), Aunt Elizabeth (Roy), Cousins: Kelly Campbell (Jason), Jasmine Campbell, Lisa Campbell,
Ruby Campbell, Shane Campbell, Aunt Cheryl, Cousins: Trymer Robb, Daniel Robb, Aunt Sylvia, Cousins Sheri Doyle, Serena Streilein, Robin Streilein
Uncle Gary (Leona), Cousins: Ashley Thompson (Shawn), Correena Froese (Enrique),, Jeremiah Poynting (Carolyn), Uncle Walter, Cousins: Crystal Poynting, Curtis Poynting, Kyle Poynting, Samantha Poynting, Uncle Ivan, Cousins Mark Fleming (Kendra), Tia Fleming, Cousin Melissa Kovach (Jay), Cousins Sheena and Dean Leflour, Uncle Ben Robb, Uncle Larry Bobinski
Aunt Bernadine McNichol, Mother of his child Connie, son Justice, as well as numerous cousins, extended relatives, close friends, and the Crate side of his family
of Fisher River Manitoba.
He is survived by his Children with Brenna; Anthony, Keelen, Christine Richard’s Love for his children was a central, guiding force in his life, even though he didn’t have many opportunities to be with them much in the last decade. As he poured his heart into his feelings for them as their father from a distance, his children were the light of his life, the reason for his smiles, and the focus of his deepest aspirations. In them, Richard’s spirit lives on. Richard was predeceased by Great Grandmother Francis Langlois, Great Grandfather Louis Langlois, Grandmother Lillian Poynting, Grandfather Thomas Poynting, Great Uncles Nelson, Bill and Stanley Langlois, Uncles Melvin and Jerome Poynting , Aunts Mary-Ellen Bobinski, Sharon Leflour, Cousins Anthony and Nolan Robb, Mother of his Children Brenna Starr, Stepfather Howard McKelvey Richard was born in Dauphin Manitoba, December 23rd, 1986. He moved back and forth between Dauphin and Winnipegosis with his Mother and Sister, moving to Winnipeg at a young age where he has lived since. Richard lived with his Mother Debbie and Stepfather Howard McKelvey for the majority of his life. `
Richard enjoyed visiting and spending time with his Mother Debbie with whom he was very close. They shared a special bond, and supported and loved one another unconditionally
throughout life. Richard enjoyed having visits and family dinners with his sister Jennifer who helped to raise him when he was young. He enjoyed visiting with family up north when he was
able, especially visiting at Uncle Gary and Aunty Leona’s on the farm when younger. Richard also enjoyed spending time with friends in the city and many other places. When Richard was a
young boy. He enjoyed watching action movies, then mimicking and playfighting the martial arts scenes afterwards with his siblings and cousins. He also enjoyed dancing and teaching others
dance moves, he was especially good at the C-walk, he enjoyed listening to hip hop music, his favourite being Tupac Shakur. Richard loved and cared about his family and friends strongly. He
was protective and would help those that were in need however he could. Richard liked to make jokes, and laugh, quoting silly movies and comedians, and doing impressions to make himself
and others laugh. Although Richard will be greatly missed by all those who loved him, he is also now on a greater healing journey with The Creator, and is no longer suffering or struggling in
this physical plane.
The family thanks those who attended the sacred fire and those who came in spirit, who contributed wood, food, time or donations. His journey to Creator through the 4 doorways of the
Medicine Wheel/Circle of Life will continue A combined Indigenous and Christian songs and ceremonies service will be held at Eternal Grace Funeral Home 1111 Logan Avenue, Officiated by Knowledge Keeper Douglas Harney on August 31 st /2024 1:00pm, with Pipe Ceremony, traditional songs, smudging, as well as Christian songs and scripture, as Richard held belief in both.
We thank Thunderbird House, Oshki-Giizhig and the walking-stick program for their ongoing support for Richard over the years, you made a great difference in his life, he enjoyed and was
uplifted by the programs and his workers support and friendship. We are forever grateful and appreciate all you have done and had continued to do. Especially to the late Great Grant, who
supported and stood by Richard steadfastly and made him feel so happy and uplifted.
