Mr. Richard “Dick” Ryall of Bryant’s Cove, passed peacefully away after a short illness, at Carbonear General Hospital on Monday, March 11, 2024.
Predecease by his parents: James & Margaret Ryall; sister: Linda Cole and parents-in-law: Mark & Margaret Mercer.
Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 55 years: Linda; daughters: Kim (Paul) & Kelly (Craig); grandchildren: Nikki (Adam), Josh (Courtney) & Raegan; Great Granddaughter and his pride and joy: Briar; sister: Elaine (Eddie), many nieces, nephews, 5 sisters-in-law, 2 brothers-in-law and a large circle of family and friends.
We will remember Dick for his love and dedication to his family, kindness, loyalty, his infectious laugh and definitely for how loud he was. You would always hear him before you would see him.
Dick trained as an LPN and later as a paramedic. The majority of his career was spent working at Carbonear General Hospital, where he retired in 2001. The friendships that he made during his career, whether it was a patient he cared for or their family, a person he transported to the hospital in the ambulance or the staff he worked with remained with him throughout his lifetime.
After retirement, Dick could be heard saying “I don’t know where I had the time to work.” He kept busy babysitting his grandchildren, taxied everyone around, done a little travelling, helped with odd jobs around our homes and not to mention housework and washing clothes for us all. He was also a very active member of our church community.
To Dick there was nothing like his grandchildren. They were the light of his life and especially his great granddaughter Briar. She was the apple of his eye. He loved them with all his heart. No doubt he will be a guardian angel for them all. They will miss him dearly.
Dick will live on in the hearts of those that knew and loved him. The simplest pleasures in life bought him great joy, such as spending time with his beloved wife, Linda. You rarely saw one without the other, whether they were watching a ball game or running errands. He would beam with pride whenever he spoke of his daughters, Kim & Kelly. There wasn’t anything that he wouldn’t do for them.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Dr. Karol, Dr. Ganugapenta & Dr. Farrell for their exceptional intervention and treatment. A very heartfelt thank-you to the nursing staff of the emergency department, 5th floor and the Intensive Care Unit of Carbonear General Hospital whose excellent care, kindness and compassion provided much comfort.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends at Slade’s Funeral Home, Cranes road, Upper Island Cove on Thursday: 3-5 P.M. & 7-9 P.M., Friday: 10:30 A.M.-12 Noon, 2-5 P.M. & 7-9 P.M. and Saturday: 10:30 A.M.-12 Noon. In lieu of flowers, as expressions of sympathy donations may be made in his loving memory to St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Bryant’s Cove.
The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 2 P.M. from St. Andrew’s Anglican Church & Cemetery, Bryant’s Cove.
