With heavy hearts, the family of Reginald Wilfred Speed announce his passing on August 5th, 2023. Reg passed peacefully with his wife of 64 years, Elise and family at his side.
Reg was born in Toronto, Ontario April 8th, 1933 to Wilfred (Bill) and Lily Speed. Reg and his family moved to Oakville where he attended school at Oakville Trafalgar High School. He had a love for motorcycles and flying. He obtained his private pilot licence in Dec 1956, soon after he purchased a 1946 Piper J3 Cub.
He met his future bride Elise at Octoberfest in 1957. Reg and Elise were married January 29th, 1959. Together they purchased a lot on Rebecca Street and they built their own house from laying out the lot to the final roofing. Reg was a Welder by trade and a dedicated member of the United Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters Union. In his retirement he had a woodshop in the basement where he would build countless wooden toys, shelves, desks, bird houses and whirly gigs. If it could be imagined, he could build it.
He is survived by his wife Elise. Half-sister Gladys in the England and Sons Bill (Ruth), Jim (Tracey). Grandchildren Danielle, Kyle (Amanda), Caitlin(Brandon), Laura (Brian), Nicholas (Melissa), Olivia and Alex. Great Grandchildren Hailey, Jacob, Janice, Alexis, Xander, Emma, Anna, Lily, Jackson and Madison. Cherished Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Pre deceased by 2 half-brothers Bill and Jim Speed and 2 half-sisters.
The family would like to extend a deep gratitude to the nursing staff at OTMH on the 5th floor South pod 200 for their care and compassion, special thanks to Nurse Brittany who was with the family in support.
Family and friends will be received on Monday August 14, 2023 at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 1010 Botanical Drive, BURLINGTON (905.527.0405) . Funeral Service will be held at Bay Gardens Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday August 15th at 11 am . Interment at Bayview Cemetery with reception to follow.
As an expression of sympathy, donations to Acclaim Health Dementia Care program at Walmley Club, Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
Reg loved his family and showed it by guidance and sharing his knowledge. He will be missed….
