Obituary of Raymond Hubert Walklett
It is with profound sadness, and grateful joy for a life well-lived, that we announce the peaceful passing of Ray on July 4th, 2024, at the lake.
Raymond was predeceased by his parents Herbert and Grace (née Trigwell) Walklett as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
Ray is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Jean; daughters Ashley, Melissa, and Carley; sons-in-law David and Nate; and beautiful grandchildren Mylo, Ever, Ella, Huxley, and Wylder.
Ray and Jean’s lives changed forever with the birth of their first daughter, Ashley. Melissa was born two years later, and with the arrival of Carley, the family was complete. Life with three daughters kept Dad entertained!
Dad’s world became even brighter with each grandchild that was born. Papa’s smiles were endless, and his laughter and giggles would fill the room while he played silly games, sang made-up songs, and took part in all the fun that young children have. They will remember him fondly for his silly antics.
Ray managed a successful branch of ND Graphic Products for 30 years, receiving several performance-related awards. Ray developed lasting relationships with many of his colleagues and customers.
Blessed with the gift of gab, Ray could talk for hours with old friends, new friends, colleagues, and customers alike. Ray also had several long-term friendships. He enjoyed connecting and catching up with those he knew near and far, from Kenora, California, and Las Vegas, to Toronto, Connecticut, and Mexico – and everywhere in between.
A lover of lake life, “Captain Ray” – as he affectionately became known, spent many summers boating on Lake of the Woods, and later at the family cabin, or “camp” as Dad would sometimes call it, in Laclu, Ontario. Some of his happiest moments were those shared with family and friends on the lake, creating memories that will be cherished forever. Going to the lake every summer with Dad was an adventure. This incredible opportunity instilled a deep appreciation of and gratitude for nature and its beauty. Thank you, Dad. Ray’s passions included “boat days” – completing maintenance and upgrades, small repairs and minor improvements around home, the cabin, or for his children, family, and friends.
Ray’s stories, silliness, and wisdom will be deeply missed by all who have had the privilege of calling him a family member or friend. Raymond loved his family and continually encouraged his children and grandchildren to keep their focus on their future and to always strive for the best.
Thank you for the memories. You were truly one of a kind, never to be forgotten.
Gatherings to share in the celebration of Ray’s life will be held on Monday August 26th, 2024 at the Pellatt Community Center, 1 Fire Hall Rd. Hwy 641, Laclu, ON from 2:00pm – 4:00pm.
As well as Thursday August 29th, 2024 at the Best Western Plus Pembina Inn & Suites, 1714 Pembina Hwy, Wpg, MB from 2pm – 4pm where friends and family are invited to share their memories and stories.
Please wear your colorful summer clothing in honor of Ray, who loved and championed the socks-and-sandals style.
