It is with broken hearts that we share that at the age of 79, our rock, Raymond Stafford Hazell, has passed peacefully, and on his terms surrounded by love and family after a courageous battle for more time. Ray faced this journey with unimaginable strength, grace, and selflessness. His determination, courage, and will to live surpassed every timeline.
Ray will be missed by his girls, Leigh and Andrea Hazell, his wonderful sons-in-law Joan Molina Cordero and Darryl Sinasac, his beautiful grandchildren Amanuel (Manny), Leah, and Myella and his loyal life partners Madelaine Hazell and Terry Peasgood.
Ray was the second youngest of a sibling group of seven like no other. He will be deeply missed by his surviving sister Candas Whitlock, and all his nieces and nephews, who have become his army and stood by his side recently and throughout his life.
Ray’s family meant everything to him however there were a few other things he loved. He was proud of his career in sheet metal. He was introduced to the trade by his brother-in-law Bobby Adams and he remained grateful for his mentorship throughout his life. Sheet metal provided Ray the opportunity in entrepreneurship and when he was done with that, the City of Toronto proved to be a fabulous end to his working life.
Ray leisured at his cottage which he bought at 20 years old. Once married, he built a small but stable cabin at which he spent every moment he could. He could be quoted as saying, “I have the best of both worlds – a perfect balance of city and country life.” On any given day, he could be found turning his compost, planting his gardens, or puttering around his beautiful lot. There are few things he enjoyed more than the solitude of his little Diamond Lake gem.
We will look for Ray in the stars and flames of our campfire.

Ray will be interned at Christie Memorial Cemetery on Monday, August 12, 2024, at 1:30PM. A celebration of life to follow at the Hazell Cottage, 49A Diamond Lake Road. Bring your chair.
