Obituary
Randall (Randy) John Wnek
June 24, 1960 – September 15, 2023
With great sadness in our hearts, and with fond and loving memories, we announce the passing of our beloved Randy on September 15, 2023 at Milton District Hospital, at the age of 63, of glioblastoma brain cancer. Randy was a devoted and loving husband to Pia; father to Thomas and Abigail; brother to Andrew; brother-in-law to Sue, Paivi (Phil, Sarah, Emma, Holly) and Milla; uncle to Jessica (Cem), Daniel and Patrick; great uncle to Milo and Chloe; son-in-law to Matti and Pirkko and Raila and Caj, and son to his late parents Josephine and John. Randy had many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins, and friends and colleagues across Canada and the United States with whom he shared fond and endearing memories.
Randy’s generosity, sense of integrity, and wit and humour will be missed and treasured forever by all who loved and
knew him.
Educated at Queen’s University (BA), McMaster University (MBA) and University of Limerick (LEAN Black Belt), Randy
spent 26 years with the Canadian Tire Corporation and 8 years with National Tire Distributors in supply chain
management. Randy was an effective recruiter, mentor, manager, director and teacher. He had taught supply chain
management courses at Humber College.
As a young adult in Kingston, Randy umpired baseball and was a Big Brother to a Little Brother, teaching, playing and
taking him to baseball games and concerts. Later Randy was an active father with his children, attending and
participating in his kid’s competitive sports, athletics, and other activities. Randy was an executive member of the Milton Minor Hockey Association and coached several seasons of minor hockey including a special year coaching a novice house league team with his son Thomas. In addition to supporting many charitable causes, Randy raised funds and cycled in several Canadian Tire Jumpstart Pedal for Kids events to help provide sports, athletics, and recreation opportunities to kids from families in financial need. During the COVID-19 pandemic Randy and his kids delivered meals to the food insecure across Peel Region.
Randy will be missed and remembered for his great hospitality and culinary talent particularly with his Weber and Big
Green Egg; wearing his Hawaiian shirts, ripped jeans and bare feet; listening to Jimmy Buffett, Van Morrison and Bruce Springsteen; naps with his best dog Ralph; interest in WWI and WWII history; love of sailing and cycling; and his passion for football (Go Giants!).
Special thank you to all the family, friends, colleagues, and neighbours who visited Randy at home and the hospital, and to the wonderful nurses, doctors and support staff at Milton District Hospital Complex Transitional Care unit who provided compassionate care and service.
Visitation and eulogies will be held at McKersie & Early Funeral Home on Saturday October 14, 2023 at 12:00-16:00
(12pm-4pm). Private interment will follow at later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canadian Tire Jumpstart. ( Please see donation link below )
