Murley of North Grant, Antigonish County, passed away peacefully in
the Palliative Care Unit at St Martha’s Regional Hospital in
Antigonish on March 27, 2024, at the age of
78.
Born in
Digby, he was a son of the late Chet and Marguerite «Weet»
Murley.
Starting his
career at a young age, Phil was employed with Metropolitan stores and
transferred from place to place. He was in various sales
roles all his working days. He enjoyed a neat wood pile and
making lobster chowder.
Besides his
parents, he is predeceased by his parents-in-law, Anthony and
Marguerite «Peggy» Mattie from Williams Point, Antigonish
County, and his brother-in-law Paul
Mattie.
He is
survived by his wife of 56 years Nancy (nee Mattie); daughter, Shila
(Tim Hoveland), Toronto; son, Chet (Waree Inart), Ottawa; and
granddaughters, Claire, Ottawa; and Neve, Halifax;
brothers-and-sisters-In-law: Len (Shirley) Mattie, Sheila (late Ian)
MacDonald, Monica Mattie, Marie (late Blain) Mattie, Fred
(Celeste) Mattie, Mary (Dan) Chisholm, AnnMarie (late Ron ) MacDonald,
Valerie (Jack) Sullivan, Susan (Owen) Cameron, and Matthew (Brenda)
Mattie.
Visitation
will be held Monday from 2 to 4pm in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135
College Street, Antigonish. Funeral Mass will be held
Tuesday in St. Ninian Cathedral, Antigonish, at 11:00am, with Reverend
Danny MacLennan presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery at
a later
date.
