We, the family of Peter Edward Pottie, are saddened to announce his passing at home in River Bourgeois on March 21st, 2023 with his loving family by his side. Born June 12th, 1935 in River Bourgeois, Peter was predeceased by his parents, Leonie “Leo” and Margaret Mae (McPhee), sisters Delia, Hilda and Mildred.
Peter was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Our family and friends will dearly miss his sense of humour.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Sylvia (née Fougere), sons Glenn (Hazel) of River Bourgeois, Dennis of Kempt Road and daughter Janice of River Bourgeois; grandchildren Lauren of St. Peter’s and Christi (Shane) Sampson of Lower L’Ardoise; great grandchildren Lennon and Laken Sampson whom he deeply cherished.
Peter spent 10 years as a seaman on the Great Lakes and was later employed at the Point Tupper Heavy Water Plant where he was known as “Peter Pressure”. He also worked at the Nautical Institute in Port Hawkesbury, NS where he retired.
Peter was passionate about hockey and baseball. He was a founding member of the boards for the Richmond Arena and the Richmond Amateur Baseball Association (RABA) where he umpired for many years. The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays were his favourite sports teams. He enjoyed listening to country music, especially Charley Pride. Peter had an interest in cars and always dreamed of owning a ’57 Chev.
We are forever grateful to Dr. Collins and his staff as well as Dr. Pereira for their care of Dad over the years. The family would also like to thank the Richmond County VON CCAs and the Continuing Care nurses for their exceptional compassion during Dad’s illness. Special thanks to Michelle Bona and her staff, as well as Mark Burke, Jr. “Cho”. We will never forget your kindness.
At Peter’s request, there will be no visitation or church service. Cremation has taken place and a family burial will occur at a later date.
Memorial donations can be made to Diabetes Canada, the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in River Bourgeois, NS or a charity of your choice.
