Patrick Denis Todkill passed away peacefully on July 16, 2023 at the University Hospital, London with his wife Pauline (MacDonald) and much beloved son, Paul (Julie), by his side. This followed an optimistic and determined five-month struggle with the blood cancer, Multiple Myeloma. Pat will be missed by his brother Michael Todkill, sister-in-law Mary, and nieces Teresa Todkill and Julia (James) Yaneff and family. Also, his in-laws, Bruce and Heather MacDonald, and nieces Maggie (Patrick), Erin and Kathleen (Ben) MacDonald. Pat will be remembered fondly by his Uncle and Aunts, Bill and Marg Cyr, Carol Cyr, and 25 Todkill and Cyr cousins. Pat was predeceased by his parents (Thomas) Paul Todkill (1915 – 1967) and Denise (Cyr) Todkill (1923 -2020).
Pat was born on March 21, 1953 in Toronto. He earned his BBA, and MBA from York University, followed by his CMA Accounting designation. He worked in a variety of Finance roles at companies such as General Foods, Consumer’s Glass, and Velcro Canada Inc., where he ultimately held the position of President. His corporate life took him on many international travels, providing an abundance of stories. Pat’s greatest pleasure was spending time with both his immediate and extended family. He especially enjoyed sharing books, movies, ski trips, travel adventures, and many conversations and memorable meals with his son, Paul. He also relished the time spent at his two acres and little house on Cape Sable Island, located on Nova Scotia’s Atlantic shore. Retirement in 2013provided Pat with more time to keep abreast of politics and current events, play Bridge, and recently, follow in his paternal grandfather’s “Carpenter” footsteps by trying his hand at many satisfying woodworking projects. Patrick was a person of simple tastes, honourable and steadfast. He was much loved, and will be greatly missed.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff at the Woodstock Hospital Emergency Department, Critical Care Unit, Out-Patient Cancer Clinic, Woodstock EMTs, London Victoria Hospital In-Patient Oncology, as well as the Out-Patient Cancer Clinic, especially Dr. C. Foster & Julie, Dr. Philip, and the Pharmacy team; the London University Hospital Neurology Unit; and the gentle support of the University Hospital Comfort Care nurses.
A private cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. If so desired, donations in Pat’s memory can be made to the Canadian Myeloma Research Group (CMRG), 8400 Jane Street, Suite 202B, Concord, ON, L4K 4L8, or the charity of your choice.
