Pastor Althea Hillier
January 1st, 1945 – December 11th, 2024
Pastor Althea Hillier nee Brinston was born on January 1st,1945, in Swift Current to Wesley & Florence Brinston. At the age of 8 her parents relocated to Stephenville. She committed her life to the Lord as a young girl and served the Lord faithfully all of her life. Upon graduation from High School Pastor Althea was employed with the Light & Power Company as a Billing Machine Operator. She sensed the call of God for full-time ministry and entered Eastern Pentecostal Bible College (EPBC), Peterborough, Ontario in 1964, graduating in the Watchman Class in 1967.
While at EPBC she was voted by her class to be the baccalaureate speaker at graduation. She married the love of her life, Pastor Guy Hillier, on September 05, 1969, at Zion Pentecostal Church, Stephenville. Pastor Althea entered ministry with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Newfoundland & Labrador (PAONL) in 1967 and was ordained in 1969. She served in the following ministry appointments: Northern Arm (1967-1970); Evangelist (1970-1971); Hillgrade (1971-1972); Lewisporte (1972-1976); Wild Cove (1976-1979); Carbonear (1979-1986); North Harbour (1986-1989); Clarenville (1989-1995); Twillingate (1995-2001); Seal Cove, CB, (2001-2007); Supply ministry (2007-2010); and Deer Lake (Visitation Pastor – 2010-2015). She also served for a number of years as Eastern District Women’s Ministries Director for the PAONL. She retired in 2015. Pastor Althea loved reading, studying God’s Word, playing scrabble, doing crossword puzzles, travelling and camping. She was a woman known for her faith, prayer, encouragement and love. In retirement, she lived in the pew what she had preached in the pulpit.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her husband, Guy; children, Aldena (Corey) Hillier-Legge and Vaden (Maria) Hillier; grandchildren, Lauren Legge, Joshua and Jacob Hillier; Sister Doreen Brinston; sisters-in-law, Ada (Michael) Mastin and Stella (Reginald) Russell, plus a large circle of relatives and friends. Pastor Althea was predeceased by her parents, Florence and Wesley Brinston; brother Alvin Brinston; parents-in-law George and Violet Hillier; sisters-in-law, Selma Combdon and Victoria (Patrick) Saunders; niece, Marlene Russell; and nephews, David Mastin, Farron Saunders, and Jone Saunders.
She passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord in the Palliative Care Unit at Western Memorial Hospital in Corner Brook on Wednesday, December 11th, 2024, just three weeks from her 80th birthday, surrounded by her loving family.

The family will be receiving family and friends at Parsons Funeral Home 63 North Main Street, Deer Lake, NL, on Saturday, December 14th, 2024, from the hours of 7-9 pm, and continuing on Sunday, December 15th, 2024, from the hours of 2-4 pm.
The funeral service will take place at The Emmanuel Pentecostal Church on Bennett’s Ave, Deer Lake, on Monday, December 16th, 2024, at 2:00 pm, with Pastors Jeffrey White & Andrea White, with the burial to follow at the family plot, at the Deer Lake Interdenominational Cemetery, on Wight’s Road, Deer Lake, NL.
