With broken hearts we announce the passing of Norman Girard Jr., surrounded by his loving family, on August 4, 2023. Loving husband of over 69 years to Eileen (nee Smith).
Son of Norman Sr (1989) and Lucia Girard (1996). Cherished father of Norman (Kim Marie), Kenneth (Ruth), Allan (Nancy), Mary Sennett (Mike), Christopher (Kim) and Glenn (Karen). Proud grandfather of Shannon (Bill), Jennifer (Adam), Amanda (Brandon), Kristy, Ashley (Dayne), Marc, Katie (Mitch), Mitch (Sarah), Todd (Serafina), Alicia, Sam (Jade) and Karly. Proud great-grandfather to Angelina, Ashton, Brenden, Dale, Colton, Kathryn, Hunter, Sloane & another baby boy due in the coming months. Cherished brother to Theresa and predeceased by Peter, Lena, Evelyn and Jeanette. Special Uncle to Chris Hardwick (Penny).
Norman was a true family man, supporting all of his children and grandchildren through various sporting events and activities. He was very generous with volunteering his time, being a leader in the Boy Scouts at St. Theresa’s Parish for 10 years and umpiring in the Sandwich East Little League. He spent lots of time with family, taking part in pastimes such as hunting, fishing and, his lifelong favourite, camping.
Norman was a proud member of CAW Local 1498 and retired from the Chrysler hourly payroll office after 30 years in 1989. Norman was recognized for his 200 plus blood donations.
Upon retirement, he spent 30 years as Snowbirds with his wife Eileen in Sarasota and K&K in Bradenton where he was the park handyman and shuffle board specialist.
Norman looked forward to Sunday “Driveway Parties” and Friday afternoon “Happy Hours” at his longtime home in East Windsor. In his neighbourhood, he was known as a kind man who was always waving or available for a friendly chat on his front porch.
Many thanks to the staff at Windsor Regional Hospital Ouellette Campus and Dr Tyler Jervis and Windsor Hospice for their delicate and compassionate care of Norman and his family through this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of Windsor would be appreciated.
Visiting Tuesday 3-5 & 7-9 pm. Funeral service to celebrate Norman’s life to be held Wednesday August 9, 2023 at Families First, 1065 Lauzon Rd. East Windsor, 519-969-5841. Cremation to follow.
