Norma Jean Coulter – 89, Truro, formerly of Dieppe, New
Brunswick, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, August 29,
2024, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Alberton,
Prince Edward Island, she was daughter of the late Walter and Evelyn
(Arthur) Haywood.
Norma worked for many years as Head Cashier at
Sobey’s in Moncton, New Brunswick. After she
retired, she moved to Debert where she and Elmer enjoyed touring
around, spending time with friends and family on Debert Mountain. She
was a very loving Mom and Grandmother; her family were always welcome
and her grandchildren spent many a summer vacation at her
place.
Norma had talent for crafting, especially quilting and
knitting. She was always ready to give a helping hand to anyone who
needed her. Norma was one of the founding members of Colchester Stroke
Club and volunteered many years, working in the kitchen, organizing
outings and serving as the Treasurer.
Norma is survived by her children, Willard (Carolyn) Lewis,
Cascumpec, Prince Edward Island; Garth (Joanne) Lewis, Dieppe, New
Brunswick; Sandra (Randy) McLaren, Wilmot, Annapolis County; David
Coulter, Calhoun, New Brunswick; Karen (Mike) Tulkens, Valley,
Colchester County; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one
great-great grandchild; sisters, Lorna Jollimore, French River, Prince
Edward Island; Eleanor LeBlanc, Prince George, British Columbia;
several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her second
husband, Elmer Ira Coulter; first husband, George Henry Lewis;
brothers-in-law, Romeo LeBlanc, George Jollimore.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Norma’s
family will receive friends from 1-1:45 p.m., Tuesday, September 3,
2024, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 3,
2024, Reverend April Hart officiating. Reception will follow.
Interment in Middle Road Cemetery, Middle Road, Debert.
Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in
Norma’s memory to Colchester Stroke Club are welcomed.
