It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Noel Gerrard McNamara, age 78, of Grande Greve and formerly of Evanston. He passed away on March 6th, 2024 at home. Born in Evanston, he was the son of the late John David and Clara (Bourque) McNamara.
Noel worked as an Addictions Councilor at Strait Richmond Hospital Detox Unit for 18 years. He had a compassionate, kind heart for those in need. A grateful member of AA for over 40 years where he made many lifelong friends. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with family.
Noel loved singing and playing his guitar; often attending Gerry’s Music Circle.
A true testament of his deep love for his wife Marilyn was evident when he became her compassionate caregiver during her illness.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Marilyn; children, Gary (Judy), Kempt Rd; Michael, Sydney; Leah, Port Hawkesbury; stepchildren; Natalie (Jerry), Lower L’Ardoise; Glen (Laura), Lantz; Darrell (Tracy), Lower Sackville; grandchildren; Dana Jo, Matthew, Britney, Collette, Ashley, Kaityln, Ethan, Alex; great-grandchildren; Brody, Bowen, Bradlee, Taylor, Cameron, Owen, Olivia; siblings; Betty (Walter) King, Evanston; Alfred (Elizabeth), Evanston; Shelia (Allan), Rockingham; Dennis (Karen), Evanston; Louis (Louise), Sus, NB; sister-in-law; Karen, Whiteside; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister; Ann Marie McNamara; brothers, Joseph “Joe” McNamara, John Eddy McNamara; nephew; John Wesley Walker and great-nephew, Devon Gilbert; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 22nd, 2024 at 1pm, from St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, St. Peters; Rev. John Yake officiating. Interment at St. Peter’s Cemetery. Reception to follow at St. Peter’s Lions Hall. Memorial donations may be made to charity of choice.
