Myra Vickers
1950-2023
It is with heavy, broken hearts that we announce the passing
of our gentle, kind-hearted wife, mother, nanny, and sister, Myra Jean
Vickers. Myra passed away in the early morning of Wednesday, October
18, 2023, at St. Martha’s Hospital in Antigonish, Nova
Scotia, after a brief diagnosis of cancer. Throughout her illness,
Myra’s considerate, soft-spoken words, golden smile and
welcoming nature never faltered. She received her husband, daughters,
grandchildren, family and friends with her affectionate phrase,
«Hi Sweetheart». When her words could no longer reach our
ears, her beautiful eyes and smile continued to shower us with her
love.
Myra was born May 13, 1950, in Antigonish, Nova Scotia and
was raised in Heatherton, Nova Scotia. Myra had the special ability to
make everyone feel welcomed and loved by her quiet demeanor,
thoughtful words, wise advice, and warm embraces. Myra loved her role
as a wife, mother, nanny and friend. Myra treasured and embraced every
moment with her family, whether cheering on at sporting events, dance
recitals, musical recitals, or simply walking hand in hand.
Myra’s love for her family and friends was unconditional.
There are not enough words to describe how powerful and important her
presence influenced those who knew and loved her.
Mom is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, George
Vickers. Together they built a beautiful life of love, laughter, and
strength. Their devoted relationship constantly demonstrated to their
3 beautiful daughters an incredible example of love and respect, and
how to cherish one another. Myra leaves behind her three daughters;
her love and adoration for her daughter’s accomplishments
were her source of pride and joy. Myra will be profoundly missed by,
Heidi (Ryan) Somers (Miramichi, NB), Danielle (Shane) Pitts (New
Glasgow, NS), and Holly (Dennis) Connors (Bayfield, NS), as well as
her dearest 6 grandchildren, Simon, Ashton, Shaelyn, Kenley, Irelynn
and Iyla. Myra leaves behind her chosen daughter, Emma White (Trenton,
NS), and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Myra is survived by
her 9 siblings who she lovingly spoke too and created memorable and
lasting bonds, Marie (Dave) MacKinnon, Bernie Chisholm (Sherry
Williams), Lorna (Gary) Pond, Connie (Darryl) Leigh, Diana (Brendan)
Kelly, Andrew (Marie) Chisholm, Callum Chisholm, Blaine Chisholm
(Deanna Penney), and Jennifer Chisholm (Paul Pilong). Myra is also
survived by uncle, Carl Richards and aunt, Teresa MacVail. Myra was
predeceased by her father, Bernie-Alex Chisholm, mother, Alice
Richards, and grandmother, Charlotte Richards, all from Heatherton
Nova Scotia.
Myra’s hard-working hands tirelessly attended to
the needs of her family, especially to her husband, the love of her
life. Myra greatly enjoyed gardening, peaceful walks, listening to
music, and laughing with her family while building beautiful
memories.
Myra’s family would like to share their special
appreciation and sincere gratitude to the incredible staff at St.
Martha’s Palliative Care Unit. The care, patience, guidance,
and affection that was abundantly extended to our beautiful mother
touched our family immeasurably. The ceaseless
devotion and immense hearts and strength possessed by this special
staff was extraordinary and remarkable. Additionally, the tremendous
guidance, care, patience and abundant love Madonna Touesnard
selflessly offered to Mom, and our family, will forever be remembered
and honoured in our hearts. Madonna holds a precious place within our
family; her unwavering strength and support carried us through this
very difficult time, and for her we are truly grateful.
The family will receive visitors at R.H. Porter Funeral Home,
55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow, Nova Scotia on Sunday October 22, 2023,
from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at Saint John
the Baptist Roman Catholic Church on Monday October 23, 2023 at 11am
with Father Tom MacNeil officiating.
Donations in Myra’s memory can be made to a charity
that meant dearly to both her and George, Plan International
Canada, the Palliative Care
Unit at St. Martha’s Hospital, or any charity of
your choice.
