Obituary of Murray Bourne Dyck
It is with sadness our family announces the passing of Murray Bourne Dyck on July 19th, 2023.
Murray was born on October 30, 1947 to Clifford and Agnes Dyck, the eldest of three children. He is survived by son Matthew (Maureen) and their children Dylan (Stephanie) and Rayleen (Matthew); son Andrew (Gwen) and their children Wyatt, Owen, Carter and Joshua; and daughter Meaghan (Jonathan) Hutzul and their children Madalyn, Nicholas, Macie and Drake; as well as the mother of his children, Linda. He is also survived by his sister Sherrie Culver and her son Devon, as well as Ian’s daughters Jennifer and Kathleen. Murray was predeceased by his parents, Clifford and Agnes; his brother Ian; and his brother-in-law David Culver.
Murray grew up on the family farm at Borden, Saskatchewan and lived there his whole life except while attending the University of Saskatchewan (where he was class President one year). He was very proud of the fact that his grandsons were the sixth generation on the farm. He was an excellent athlete when he was young, excelling at track, baseball and hockey. Another highlight was showing his 4-H steer at the Toronto Royal Exhibition. Murray applied good farm husbandry practices and took good care of the land. He shared his knowledge of farming when he taught farm management courses. He passed on his love of farming to his sons and grandsons. Murray’s passion was raising cattle, first Herefords, then introducing Simmental (importing a heifer from Switzerland) and Red Angus into the herd. He had the joy of visiting Argentina several times to see the calves that were from frozen embryos he had sent to South America, and to visit friends there. He knew how to feed and raise cattle and always got top dollar for them. He loved to go up to Frenchman Butte and Onion Lake First Nation when he had cattle pastured there, and he made lifelong friends in the area. He liked nothing more than to go to the pasture and watch his cattle. Murray was proud to be a cattleman. After he became disabled he always appreciated visits and phone calls from friends and family, particularly as it became more and more difficult for him to get out and about. Sincere thanks to all the healthcare providers who took such good care of Murray.
A celebration of Murray’s life will be held on August 11th at 2:00 p.m. at the Borden Community Centre. Please bring your stories to share at that time.
Memorial donations to The Borden Care Home, Box 155, Borden, SK. S0K0N0 or to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
