It is with great sadness the family announces the
sudden passing of Minnie Veronica (O’Leary) Doiron at St.
Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, on Saturday, March
23rd,
2024.
Born in Queensport, Guysborough County, on September
1st, 1934, she was the youngest child of
Alphonso and Gertrude (Richard) O’Leary and the last
surviving member of her immediate family.
After attending school in Queensport, Minnie completed
her high school education in Pomquet where she met her husband of 71
years, Joseph Doiron. They married November 24th, 1952, in
Pomquet.
Minnie is survived by her husband Joseph, children,
Veronica (Joe) Delorey, North Grant; Paul (Dorothy), Clydesdale; Joan
(Neil) MacIsaac, St Andrews, David (Gloria), Hilden; Stephen (Susan),
Pomquet; Jacqueline (Kelvin) Durbidge, Australia; Suzanne (John)
Vermeer, Abbotsford, B.C.; Roselynn Doiron (Paul), Brockville, Ont.;
18 grandchildren; David, Adam, Vanessa, Stacy, Daniel, Robert,
Jeaniece, Jenna, Alyse, Andrew, Kara, Kyle, Aimee,Andrew, Alynn, Ash,
Nathaniel, and Chance. Minnie is also survived by 23 great
grandchildren and her brother-in-Law, Bill
Brown.
Minnie is predeceased by daughter, Gertrude in
infancy; grandson, Adrian Delorey; and great granddaughter, Ava
Doiron. Minnie is also predeceased by her ten sisters and
brothers: Agatha, Mary, Thomas, Leo, Alice, Ruby, Helen, Tina,
Florence, and Osborne.
Minnie dedicated many years to raising her loving
family with her husband, Joe. As the family grew up, she
obtained her driver’s licence and joined the work force
working at Elms Gardens, and eventually she made her way to St. FX
University where she spent 20-plus years as Supervisor of
Housekeeping. Upon retiring, she began traveling across
Canada, the States, Mexico, and Europe, but no place was dearer to her
heart than her beloved Queensport. She was so proud of her
Irish Heritage that she often dressed in her Irish regalia on St.
Patrick’s Day.
Mom loved baking, quilting, bowling, and playing
cards. She especially loved family gatherings and enjoyed
spending as much time as she could with her children and grandchildren
to whom she was truly dedicated.
Special thanks for the compassionate care given to Mom
at Richmond Villa, the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, and St.
Martha’s Emergency Department. We are grateful to
all the Health Care Professionals who cared for Mom over the years and
during her last hours.
Visitation will be held in C.L. Curry Funeral Home,
135 College Street, Antigonish, Nova Scotia, on Tuesday, March
26th, 2024, from 2-4 and 7-9pm.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March
27th at 11am in Ste. Croix Church,
Pomquet. The funeral will be recorded and available for
viewing on the funeral home website shortly after the
service.
Burial at a later date in the parish
cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the R.K.
MacDonald Nursing Home Foundation, Ste. Croix Cemetery Fund, or a
charity of one’s choice.
