Gruyich, Millicent/Mrs. G./Milly/Baba Lela- Passed away peacefully on Jan 25th, 2024, in her hometown Niagara Falls, Ontario.
She was born to George and Eva Sainovich on August 10th, 1936. The Sainovich family were proud owners of the Prospect Hotel and dedicated members to their Serbian community and Church, St. George & St. Archangel Michael.
Millicent attended Pine Manor College in Massachusetts and later married John Gruyich of Lackawanna NY. Together, they opened Michael’s Inn in 1965 in honor of Millicent’s late brother, Michael Sainovich. True to their entrepreneurial spirit, the Gruyich and Sainovich family worked in partnership with their cousins to build and establish Niagara’s famous Skylon Tower, which still stands as a staple in the Falls today.
Although a successful businesswoman, Millicent’s true passion was her family, her three children and six grandchildren, and her Serbian church and community. She was beloved by many for her kindness, generosity, warmth and zest for life. She was always present for those in need and the first to provide assistance.
She is survived by her daughter Melanie Sever and son-in-law, Nick Sever, her son, Michael Gruyich, daughter Melissa Tomlin and son-in-law John Tomlin, and her six grandchildren, who will deeply miss their loving baba: Tasha, Michael John, Sophie, Julia, Leila and Mila.
Millicent’s family will receive friends at Morse & Son Funeral Home, 5917 Main Street from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Sunday, January 28, 2024. Pomen will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday evening at 7:00 pm by the Very Rev. Fr. Milorad Delic. Funeral will be held on Monday morning, January 29th at 11:30 o’clock at the funeral home, and then to St. George Serbian Orthodox Church where service will be held at 12 o’clock. Interment at Lundy’s Lane Cemetery.
