Obituary of Micheline Sabourin
Carefor Hospice – Cornwall, Ontario – May 15th 2024
Micheline Sabourin (née Charbonneau), took her last breath in the early morning hours of May 15th, with her devoted husband and loving daughters tending to her needs and ensuring she was comfortable in her final moments. Succumbing to cancer following a valiant battle, surpassing all expectations, she leaves in mourning her caring husband Paul Sabourin of 49 years, who will deeply miss her. Cherished mother of three daughters: Chantal Sabourin (wife to Marc-André Lapierre), living in Boucherville, Québec; Jacynthe Sabourin (wife to Alexandre Wakeham), in Stittsville, Ontario; and Nathalie Amell (wife of Bradley Amell), in Monkland, Ontario. They will carry her with them in their hearts and minds, always.
A loving and doting “Grand-maman Mitch” to six grand-children: Arthur Lapierre; Griffin and Leah Wakeham; and Rylee, Abigail and Zachary Amell. Life won’t ever be quite as sweet without your butter tart squares, peanut-butter rice-krispie squares and pets de soeurs.
She was born in Hawkesbury to Dr. Paul Charbonneau and his wife Jacqueline Charbonneau (née Champeau) with whom she now reunites. She leaves in grieving her siblings: Marie-Paule, François, Isabelle, and Dominique Charbonneau; preceded in death by her oldest sibling Jean-Pierre.
Micheline was a dedicated laboratory technologist at the Hotel Dieu Hospital (Cornwall Community Hospital) for over 30 years, retiring in 2008. Her colleagues remember her as being “an energizer bunny”, always willing to lend a helping hand, and often seen organizing social events. As an excellent teacher and mentor, Micheline always took new students and staff under her wing, making sure they integrated with ease into the team.
She was passionate about traveling with her husband Paul. They visited their daughters in many places across the globe, including New York City, Victoria (BC), Edmonton (AB), Halifax (NS), and even walked the great wall of China. She loved relaxing on the beach, whether it was in Florida, Mexico, Hawaii, or Spain. Micheline always found a way to have a good time outdoors. Depending on the season, you could find her at the gym, swimming (indoors or out), running, golfing, biking, walking, cross-country skiing or tending to her bountiful garden. She shared her love of these activities with her many friends and family. She read extensively, and shared her passion for learning with her daughters and grand-childen.
Many thanks to all the wonderful home care workers from both Home and Community Care Support Services and Nurse Next Door who attended to Micheline by providing her comfort and peace while still at home. Special recognition to the staff at Hospice Cornwall (Carefor), for their exceptional compassion, caring and expertise.
We would like to especially thank Claire Sabourin (wife to Denis Sabourin, Paul’s brother) for having been by Micheline’s side and our father’s, especially nearing the end; we three daughters appreciate that support tremendously.
Family and friends are asked to gather at St. Félix de Valois Church, 620 Glengarry Blvd, Cornwall, ON K6H 6E7 on Friday, May 31, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. A bilingual funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception in the parish hall.
