Merrie Dawn Wierts Obituary
Merrie Dawn Wierts (Van Biesbrouck) was born on February 1st, 1965 in Chatham, grew up proudly in Blenheim, and was a resident of Beamsville. On October 13th, 2024, Merrie Dawn sadly passed away too soon in her 60th year and is now at peace with her parents Julius and Marilyn and her sisters Julie, Susan, and Daphne. Merrie is the beloved wife and best friend of Mike for 35 years and cherished mom of Colin (Alana Attema) and Sarah, who are all missing her terribly. Proud sister to Barry and Sandy Van Biesbrouck, Lee and Jill Van Biesbrouck, Laurie and Larry (2016) Callow, Julie (2009) and Frank Pullen, Janette and Michael Higgins, Susan (2003) and Mike Demeyre, Daphne Van Biesbrouck (2014) and Bosco Bertrand. Loving sister-in-law to Gary and Lois Wierts, Cynthia and Bert Nauta, Marietta and Dave Redding, and Anita and Bob Stevenson. Predeceased by mother and father-in-law Helen and Gerry Wierts. Merrie loved all of her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and they too will all miss her curious and encouraging nature. Merrie will be dearly missed by many good friends whose friendships she cherished so deeply.
Merrie worked as a Child and Youth Worker in the Niagara Catholic District School Board. She worked tirelessly to support the mental health of youth and adolescents at various schools. She will be sadly missed by the students of Blessed Trinity Secondary School, her last job, whom she cared so deeply for. Merrie was an ardent reader, a true lifelong learner, and constantly worked to improve her well-being through running, walking, yoga, and mindfulness. She loved gardening, having long conversations about life over coffee or wine, and spending time with her husband Mike outdoors (camping, bike rides, walks, working around the house). She was her kids’ biggest fan and involved in everything they did whether it was school, sports, or their life in general.
Family and friends will be received at Tallman Funeral Home – Fireside Room, 3277 King St., Vineland, on Saturday, October 19th, 2024 from 12-3 pm. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grimsby Benevolent Fund, whom helped to fund Merrie’s mental health initiatives at Blessed Trinity, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
