Vermeeren, Merna (nee Rovers) (June 26, 1941-April 25, 2023)-
Passed away, peacefully, at her Tillsonburg residence, on Tuesday, April 25th, 2023, with her loving family by her side, Merna (nee Rovers) Vermeeren, in her 82nd year. Born in Brabant, Holland, to John and Lambertha (nee VanDeVenne) Rovers. Merna will be remembered by many for her many years of dedicated employment at Haines Meat Market, Tillsonburg. Merna also worked in the St. Mary’s R.C. Church rectory for 12 years. She will also be remembered as a member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church and for living out her faith through her involvement with the St. Mary’s Catholic Women’s League as a 60-year member and past president. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards with several friendship groups- sometimes up to 3/4 times per week. Merna is predeceased by her husband, Gerardus “Gerry” Vermeeren (January 6, 2006). Lovingly remembered by her children and their families: Janet (Anthony Drescher), of Tillsonburg; John (Lori) Vermeeren, of Tillsonburg; Jennifer (Michael Collins), of Straffordville; Julie (Steve Bye), of Tillsonburg. Always a loving grandmother to: Cassandra (Lucas), Danielle, Sam; Kaitlyn (James) (special great-grandmother to their children Lorraine, Rose, James), Caleb, Joshua; Ben (Corina), Tori; Rebecca. Survived by her siblings: Bill, Jerry, John, Dina and by her in-laws Cathy and Jean; as well as by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by her siblings Catherine, Bert, and by her in-laws Lenny, Peter, Hubert, Cor, Luis, and Bertha.
Friends, relatives, and neighbours are invited to attend public visitation on Friday, April 28th, 2023 between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. or on Saturday, April 29th between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m., in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes Chapel, 262 Broadway St., Tillsonburg. St. Mary’s Catholic Women’s League Prayers will be held on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. In keeping with Merna’s expressed wishes, a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, April 29th, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., in SACRED HEART R.C. CHURCH, 24 ALBERT STREET, IN LANGTON, by Rev. Fr. Seejo John. All funeral attendees are invited to attend a St. Mary’s C.W.L. luncheon, held in the Courtland Community Centre (272 Main Street of Courtland), immediately following interment in the Tillsonburg Cemetery. Everyone who knew Merna is invited to share favourite photos, send personal condolences, send flowers or contribute memorial donations to the “Canadian Diabetes Association” or to the “Canadian Cancer Society” via Merna’s online tribute page at www.verhoevefuneralhomes.com or by contacting the Maurice J.
