The family of Melba Madeleine Holden announces her peaceful passing on May 1, 2024, in her 97th year. Loving mother to the late LeeAnn Derbyshire of Dundas, and Greg Derbyshire (Elizabeth) of Brantford. Adoring Grams to Adam Fenn (Sarah), Rachael Derbyshire (Bruce Cook), Rob Derbyshire (Kayley Pettit), and Emily Derbyshire, and Great Grams to Owen and Jacob Fenn. Loved and admired by nieces and nephews Debs (deceased) (John), Kathy (Graham), Ted (deceased), Wayne (Mary Margaret), Lisa (Mike), and Sean (Jenn), and their families. Predeceased by parents Lorenzo and Beatrice (née Stephenson) Holden, and siblings Lyle (Marion), Ted (Dot), Bob (Rachael), and Linda (John).
Born in Windsor Ontario, Melba attended Windsor Business College after high school and was eventually employed by the City of Windsor. In 1969, she moved her children to Bracebridge Muskoka where she served as an office manager with the Muskoka Assessment Office. After retirement, she moved to Dundas to be closer to her children and grandchildren. As a life-long learner, she was an avid reader of novels, philosophy, and current events. She took university courses and art courses throughout her life. She loved spending time outdoors, cross country skiing in the winter and going for walks in nature all year long – particularly at the Royal Botanical Gardens. But by far, her favourite activity was spending time with her family.
Visited often in her last days by her son, grandchildren, niece Lisa, and family friend Lori, she felt supported and deeply loved. She spent her final days in the compassionate care of the staff at Stedman Community Hospice in Brantford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Stedman Community Hospice, Brantford, or the Royal Botanical Gardens, Burlington.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Sunday June 23rd at 2:00 pm. location to be confirmed; contact Circle of Life, Dundas, 905-628-8558 in June.
