May Fletcher Obituary
It is with deep felt sympathy and tender love that we announce the passing of May Fletcher.
May aged 100 years, passed away at the Swan River Personal Care Home, October 11th, 2024.
She was born on September 29th, 1924, at Wawanesa, MB. She lived with her parents Ward and Connie Fawcett, and sister Jean at Tilston, Manitoba on the farm.
On June 28th, 1943, she married Frank Fletcher. Frank and May bought land and farmed near Tilston, Manitoba until 1959, then the Swan River Valley became their home. They farmed between Swan River and Bowsman until 1975. They sold all but the house and a few acres and resided there until 1987.
In January 1987 Frank and May moved into Swan River, Frank passed 6 months later, and mom stayed in her home until her health started to fail. She then moved into a lovely apartment in Midtown States. Joy and Howard sold their home in Roblin and moved into the same block as their mom, May. It was wonderful being so close everyday. As Mays health continued to fail, the Doctor advised it best for her to be in the Personal Care Home. Everyone there told us what a beautiful person May was.
Frank and May had 4 children Daughter Joy (Howard), Bob (Joan), Murray (Jetta), and Malcolm (Donna). May Will be greatly missed by each one.
May was known for her friendly and loving nature. She always enjoyed helping others. The senior centre brought May much joy. She made each and every one coming in feel most welcome.
May also loved time at Whitefish lake. She looked forward to spending time with family around the fire. The kids supplied the fish, and she brought the rest. May would say she had a full and happy life.
She touched the lives of many with her warm and caring spirit. Everyone enjoyed her fabulous cooking. May and Frank enjoyed planting trees and all kinds of flowers.
The greatest hardship in May’s life was losing her beloved husband, Frank. They were truly best friends and had a deep and lasting love. May also lost her eldest son Bob, to cancer in 2019.
May wanted her children to be loving just like she was. May would say to them growing up “If we can’t say something nice, don’t sat anything at all”.
It was truly a blessing to grow up with such wonderful parents. May was a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law, and Grandma, Great grandma and Great Great Grandma.
May will be greatly missed; the memories she created will be cherished for a lifetime.
A funeral service was held in the Birchwood Cemetery. May was laid to rest next to her husband Frank. A private family gathering was held to pay tribute to her purposeful and beautiful life.
Paull Funeral Home and Crematorium are honoured to have serve the family.
