Max was born in Rossburn, Manitoba, on November, 19, 1923. Setting out as a young man, he earned his way as a hard worker in farming and lumber camps. Max then joined the Armed Forces in 1944. After serving overseas in WWII, he returned to Halifax, where he met Edna Trider. Married in 1948, they settled in the mining town of Kirkland Lake, then finally Azilda. He retired in 1982 after 31 years with Falconbridge Nickel Mines.
Max will be remembered as a devoted man of faith and a member of St. Patrick’s Parish, a loving father, skilled woodworker, and a warm hearted socializer. He was a dedicated walker, card shark with the occasional Captain Morgan in hand, involved in the seniors bowling community, first up to dance at social events, and doing his daily word search puzzles. He touched many lives and will be dearly missed.
The family is forever grateful to the staff and nursing care providers whom we hold in high regard at Amberwood Retirement Residence, Bayshore Home Health, Veteran’s Affairs Canada and to the many Doctors who helped our beloved Dad navigate through his health challenges. A special thank you to Dr. Callaghan who has always gone above and beyond. Forever grateful to Dr. Eaton for her care, comfort and compassion in his final hours.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch Street, Sudbury on Saturday, November 16th, from 10:30am – 1:00pm followed by a service in the Chapel at 1pm.
Interment will take place immediately following the service at the Civic Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 564, or to the Maison McCullough Hospice.
