Leblanc, Mary Claire, «Claire», 81. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, wife, sister, aunt, friend, nanny Claire on February 12, 2024 at the Richmond Villa, St. Peter’s. Born in Sampsonville, she was the daughter of the late Omer and Mary Margaret “Peggy” (Sampson) Savoie. She was a dynamic force of joy and positivity, cherished by many for her vibrant spirit and infectious laughter. Her presence had a way of making the world a brighter place, as she lived life to the fullest, embracing each moment with enthusiasm and love.
Claire will be deeply missed by Leo, husband of 33 years, and in her later years, her caregiver, her four children, Shannon (Glen) Worth, AG (Val) MacRae, Dana (Lara) MacRae, and Brendan (Namhee) MacRae, brother, Raymond (Annie Mae) Savoie, sisters, Caren (Billy) Robertson, Wilma (Charles) Martell, Valerie George, stepchildren, Rhodena (Cyril) McPhee, and Rod (Jo-Anne) Leblanc, her 8 grandchildren Rowan (Mikayla), Tessa (Massiel), Connor, Dana, Francis, Haley, (Kelly), Devon (Ashley) and Brandi (Colton), her sisters-in-law Doris, Florence, Alice, Alfreda, Rita, and brothers-in-law Norman (Louise), John, Wayne, her many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and her many friends and extended family.
A graduate of the St Rita’s School of Nursing 1960, she dedicated over 30 years of her life to caring for others as a nurse, embodying compassion and selflessness that would define her life’s work. Claire remained close friends with her fellow St Rita’s graduates, spanning 60 years. She embarked on a career that would touch countless lives in Sydney and Halifax, Nova Scotia and Boston, Massachusetts. Her dedication to her patients went beyond duty; it was a reflection of her innate kindness and empathy. Even in retirement, Claire continued to extend her caring nature to those around her. Whether it was checking in on a neighbour, visiting the elderly, caring for her own mother and brother, or offering a listening ear to friends in need, she never stopped putting others first.
Known for her culinary skills, Claire was not only a great cook but also a generous host, delighting friends and family with her delicious meals and warm hospitality. Her kitchen was a place of gathering, where laughter flowed as freely as the food, creating cherished memories that will last forever.
Music and dancing were among Claire’s greatest passions, and she could often be found tapping her feet to the rhythm of life. Her creativity knew no bounds, as she seamlessly transitioned from sewing and knitting beautiful creations to crafting unforgettable moments of joy for those around her.
One of Claire’s greatest gifts was her ability to connect with others on a deeply personal level. She was always quick with a compliment, an attentive listener and a trusted confidante to all who sought her counsel. Her circle of friends spanned across diverse backgrounds and walks of life, a testament to her unwavering dedication to fostering meaningful connections. It is without a doubt, she is leaving behind a legacy of love and light that will forever illuminate the lives of those she touched.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Billy Savoie, Alec Savoie; sisters Georgina MacDonald, Josephine Lerue; brothers-in-law, Douglas Mombourquette, and Michael George, stepson Ruben Leblanc; sisters-in-law Yvonne Sampson, Emerise Gagnon and Mary Jessie Savoie.
We would like to extend a warm thank you to the Richmond Villa for their wonderful compassion and care. A special thanks to her goddaughter, Lori Deveaux for her support in Claire’s final days.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass to Celebrate the Life of Claire will be held at a later date, in St Peter’s Catholic Church. Burial to follow in St. Peter’s Catholic Church Cemetery.
