MARY ADELINE MILLSON
Was born in Beeton, Ontario May 18, 1926, daughter of Cecil and Eva Carr, sister of the late Doris Smith and the late Bill Carr. Mary passed away on June 24, 2023 at Port Perry Hospital after a long and rewarding life.
Beloved wife of Stanley Ross Millson, who predeceased her on April 3, 1992.
She was a Registered Nurse, graduating in 1948 from Oshawa General Hospital.
On June 24, 1950, Stanley and Mary were married in Simcoe United Church, Oshawa. They were blessed with four sons, Glenn, Grant, the late Lorne, and Bruce. For many years they operated Millsondale Farm, until their older son Glenn took over the farm in 1986.
Mary was able to combine a nursing career with motherhood. She and her husband attended Eldad United Church in Solina all their lives.
Mary was a life member of 68 years at Oshawa General Hospital, Eldad United Church, United Church Women and Solina Women’s Institute. In 2005 she wrote a book, «Memories of Eldad Church.» Mary enjoyed her grandchildren, Stuart and Michael, Ross and Paul(twins), Mark, Cole and Jack. Her last grandchild was her granddaughter, Sarah. She was blessed with six great grandchildren, Ross and Sabrina’s daughters Tessa and Ella; Paul and Michelle’s son, Parker; Mark and Becky’s sons, Riley and Connor; and Michael and Cathy’s son, Arlo.
After Glenn returned home to the farm, Stanley and Mary built a bungalow on the farm, the former site of Mount Vernon Church. They felt their home and their lives were truly blessed.
In addition to their immediate loving family, four special people enriched her life so very much…Deborah Wattie, Marie Clancy, Sandra Sommer and most especially Kim Gleason of Bowmanville, who was her best friend and confidant since 2002. She enriched Mary’s life with her attentiveness, kindness and thoughtfulness over the period of many years. She was always there when she needed friendship and help with the many changes in her life.
Mary sold her home to her grandson Mark in 2009, moving to Bowmanville, and in 2013 moved to Whitecliffe Terrace in Courtice, later settling into Strathaven Nursing Home in Bowmanville.
Mary is resting at Morris Funeral Chapel(4 Division St., Bowmanville), with visitation to take place on Thursday, June 29 from 11:30AM until time of service in the chapel at 1:00PM. Interment to follow in the family plot at Eldaad Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined. If desired, donations to Eldad United Church or Eldad Cemetery would be appreciated. A reception will follow the service at Eldad United Church.
