TAYLOR, Mary Marguerite (née Robinson)
Mary Marguerite Taylor (formerly of Northport) died peacefully at Crown Ridge Place in Trenton on February 15, 2023 at 95 years of age. Much loved wife and best friend to James Allan Taylor (predeceased), cherished mother of Kim (Charles, predeceased), Cynthia (Kelly), James Jr. (Susan), and Timothy (Deirdre). Proud grandmother of ten grandchildren, including Lauren (Chris), Jamie, Taylor, Kelly Breanne (Dan), Brendan, Madison, Kaitlyn, Jonathan, Daniel, and Andrew, and great grandmother to Harry. She is survived by her sister Anna Robinson.
Mary Marguerite Robinson was born October 24 1927, on her parents’ farm in Brampton, Ontario, the second of two girls to Janet and Cecil Robinson. Mary attended the University of Toronto, graduating with a BA in Household Economics in 1949. It was at U of T that Mary met her future husband James. They married in September 1950. Mary went on to use her acquired skills teaching nurses dietary nutrition until motherhood became her life’s work. Mary became the mother of four active children in five years, and supported her husband James in his role of MPP in the Ontario Legislature where he served from 1971 to 1987.
In addition to managing the homestead, Northport House, for nearly 50 years, and the family farm in South Bay, Mary was the cornerstone of many election campaigns. She attended and hosted countless events and assisted in many wide ranging ways. It was a rewarding role together with her support to James as Mayor of Prince Edward County from 1998 to 2003. Jim and Mary were a dynamo team. Mary was a very capable, committed, and practical individual, and she was an elegant lady. Mary found time to undertake volunteer work, including University Women’s Club, Prince Edward Curling Club, and pushing the cart for the Picton Hospital Auxiliary. She was dutiful and conscientious. Mary published one of the first comprehensive tourist newspapers called «Key to Quinte’s Isle» which was a one-stop publication highlighting scenic driving routes, tourist operators, and restaurants along the way. She took on that publication with a great sense of duty and pride for her community and developed many special relationships along the way.
Above all, Mary was the matriarch of her family; she was a woman of great strength of character and fortitude of spirit. She was the glue in the family, and always set the example of family first. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished in our hearts.
We would like to thank her caregivers, and special thanks to those at Crown Ridge Place who offered kind and compassionate caring during her last days.
Mary rested at Rushnell Funeral Homes – Picton Chapel, 33 Main Street (613-476-2450). If desired, donations to PECMH Foundation “Back the Build” in Picton would be appreciated by the family in lieu of flowers. A private family service will take place at a future date.
