MACKLAM, Mary Macklam (nee Brown) – passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at the age of 90, in Trenton Memorial Hospital. She was known to many as a strong woman with a great sense of humor, who dearly loved her friends and family.
Born in the Township of Brighton, Mary had a long teaching career at Smithfield Public School. Her love of history led her to meticulously document the family ancestry, participate as a past member of the Brighton Heritage Advisory Committee, and co-author a book on the history of local apple growing. As an avid reader, Mary belonged to the book club at Trenton Library. She was also a long-time member of the Brighton Horticultural Society and Probus Club.
She will forever be cherished by loving husband, Doug Macklam of 70 years; her daughter Jill Macklam (Murray Gibb); grandchildren Alexandra Macklam, and Devon Macklam. She is predeceased by her parents John and Murial Brown, her sister Catherine Roblin (Murray) and brother Jack Brown (Helen). Mary will be greatly missed by all her friends and family, who knew and loved her.
Flowers will be planted on the family property on top of the hill overlooking Lake Ontario in her honour – one of her favourite spots. As per Mary’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral held and memories and condolences may be shared at www.rushnellfuneralhomes.com.
