Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the passing of Mary who passed away peacefully at Lions Gate Hospital after a brief illness, in her 97th year.
Mary, one of the sweetest, kindest people you could ever know, was dedicated to her family. Predeceased by her husband Earl and her oldest son Dave (Sue), she is survived by her sons Ken, Dan (Betty) and Bruce (Vanessa), grandchildren Allen (Sarah), Mark (Sarah), Brianne (Kurtis) and Paul, great grandchildren Zachary, Chloe, Noah, Oliver and Sloan. She is also survived and greatly missed by her only sister Joan (Bill) and family Steve, Cheryl and Chris. Mary outlived most of her friends but she still enjoyed her regular talks with remaining friends Mary and Tina as well as former daughter-in- law Maria, cousin Richard and several condo neighbours.
Mary was born in Vancouver, spending most of her life there and later in North Vancouver. She could not envision living anywhere else. At age 17 she joined the TD Bank, making many friends over the years and retiring in 1986. During those years besides working full time, she raised her family and later expanded her role of Mom to include being Grandma and Great Grandma. After retiring she enjoyed gardening, travelling and became an avid quilter. She was always the centre of our family gatherings and for so many years we were spoiled as she prepared so many great meals. She was also a cancer survivor, always determined to conquer it while never complaining, enjoying remission for 18 years before it returned in recent years.
Although we now feel overwhelming sadness, this is mixed with the great joy she brought us all and the fond memories of her we will always have.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
