Mary (Marie) Cecile Martin (Demers) 1936-2024
Born December 24th, 1936, in Rouyn Quebec. Passed May 20th, 2024. The 7th of 12 children born to Edna Doherty and Remi Demers.
Mary attended 2 schools in Nipigon and Red rock. Calabogie & Renfrew.
Married in Red Rock Ontario in 1957, to estranged husband Joseph Larry Martin of Lethbridge, Alberta. Mary was loved him and loyal to him till the day she passed. A true conviction of her faith.
Mary worked as the School of Nursing in Stratford, Ontario. Training in Medical Transcription before moving to Alberta in 1978. Eventually working in Edmonton for the federal government. Retiring in 1987. Mary then volunteered for Ronald McDonald House crocheting and knitting garments and blankets for families with sick children at the Royal Alex Hospital.
Mary was a voracious reader, lover of mysteries and true crime. Mary was also a beautiful writer, focusing on poetry. She was extremely proud of her son Brock, who followed her passion and became a published writer himself, his book is Side Launch. Mary also sang karaoke in Lethbridge, her favorite to sing was any Johnny Cash songs, she had a deep voice, and this suited her perfectly.
Mary loved watching UFC, Hockey and Soccer. Although she was extremely spazzy she was thankful Brock and Jody inherited her kind heart, strong love for family, and tenacity.
Mary was a devote Christian, she loved ‘Our Lady’, born and raised Catholic she enjoyed all denominations. Mom had the gift of premonitions, she knew if we lied, she warned us if she felt strongly, we never questioned mom. A beautiful loving mother, and a beautiful soul.
Mary is lovingly remembered by her 2 surviving children, son Brock Martin (wife Antje Pahmeier) and daughter Jody Krauss (husband James Krauss), Sister Frances Boyle (husband Doug Boyle). Brother Terry Demerse (wife Tena Demerse). Grandchildren- Blake Berges, wife Sally Berges, Yoseph Atreyu, partner Adam Kolberg, Lance Martin, wife Stephanie Martin, Bryce Martin, wife Carrie Wentzell, Sarah Krauss, and Emily Krauss. Great Grandchildren: Paxton, Wyatt, and Brynn Marie Berges, Brixton Martin and Elodie Martin as well as Hudson Sauser (Krauss).
Brother-in-law, Barrie Martin of Toronto Ontario, sister-in-law Sandra Lynne Keffer of Kitchener Ontario.
Predeceased by daughter Helen Marie Gail Yuill (Martin), siblings- Iris Reddy, Bea Laviotte, Vince Demers, Remi Demers, Rita Imhoff, Irene Salo, Lawerance Demers, Jimmy Demers, and Robert Demers. Mary leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and their families whom she loved and prayed for daily.
Mary resided at Rising Sun Long Term Care for the last 3 years of her life. She loved and was loved by everyone who met her, she remembered everyone’s name, including their families’ names. Staff called her Queen Mary, fitting she went home on Victoria Day.
Mary did not want a funeral, instead a Celebration of Life will be set up at a future date due to logistics.
