October 11 2024 résidant dans la province Manitoba pour le détail des funérailles.
On October 11, 2024, Marvin Derksen went to his Father’s Heavenly Home. He died peacefully, fully loved and completely redeemed.
He was born in Gretna, Manitoba, on April 4, 1932, to Peter W. and Annie Doerksen (nee Broesky). He was an older brother to Marian Neufeld.
Dad was a handful growing up: dropping out of school, taking up smoking, sneaking across the border at Niche, Manitoba, and playing practical jokes with his friends. He was a favored nephew of his 16 maternal aunties and the apple of his mom’s eye. As a baby, his mother would give him a bit of brandy just so he would settle down to sleep at night.
After returning to finish high school, he went to Normal school to obtain his teacher certificate. He started his teaching career in Lena, Manitoba, where he met Margaret Elizabeth Peters in 1959. They married on July 16, 1960.
After Mom got her teachers certificate, they embarked to Osterwick, Manitoba, and taught grades 1-12 in a one room school. Their daughter, Debbie was born there in 1962. In the fall of 1963, they moved to Brandon. Their son, Eric was born in 1964, joined by Robert, in 1968. Dad taught in several schools there until he left teaching.
Dad was a gregarious man, knowing a lot about a lot, a talker (he talked to anyone who would listen), couch coach to the Blue Bombers and a massive Minnesota Vikings fan. He loved golfing and hiking and did those with Mom until physically unable to. He loved the world of mining, engineering and big machinery. He had strong opinions, and they were shared whether you asked him to or not. They built two homes together from the ground up – well before the days of YouTube and ‘Building Homes for Dummies’ – of which he was not one.
The salvation that Jesus offers was his, and his greatest focus in life was to share that with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
He really believed that rules did not apply to him. He taught some of his grandkids to drive at the age of 8, going up and down the back lane with him, poured dish detergent on the trampoline and taught them how to build fire WITH GASOLINE. He spent hours and hours with his grandchildren, and he was a fantastic papa.
He is survived by Margaret, whose dedication, love and perseverance were a pillar for him, he acknowledged that without her, he would not have made it; his daughter, Debbie (Jeff); his sons Eric (Candace), and Robert (Krista); six much-adored grandchildren, Ashley & Eduardo Campos Ordonez, Jeff/Ethan Hall, Drew and Bethany Derksen, Emily Derksen, Olivia Derksen, Ryan Derksen and fiancé Hannah Torchinsky; and two great-grandchildren, Phoebe and Arlo. He was sorry that he would miss meeting his 3rd great grandchild (April ‘25). His sister, Marian Neufeld; 3 nephews and their families. His 4 sisters in law, Anna (Henry) Dyck, Helen (Johnny) Hiebert, Linda Willems, and Katie (Henry) Geortzen; his 1 remaining brother-in-law, Jake Peters and 20 nieces and nephews.
