MARVEN RIPLEY MOORE
(September 9th 1944 – September 2nd 2024)
Marven Ripley Moore passed away at the Collingwood General Marine Hospital, in Collingwood, Ontario on September 2, 2024, days short of his 80th birthday.
Born in East Leicester, Nova Scotia, Sept. 9th, 1944 to Sheldon and Isabel Moore as the third oldest of 17 children. He was survived by 14 siblings, Bruce, Howard, Lee, Anne, Wayne, Gwenda, Betty, Neil, Marney, Keith, Thornton, Theresa, Beverley, and Andy. He was predeceased by both his parents and two siblings Ellen and Ruth. He learned the value of hard work growing up on a farm with many mouths to feed.
Marven and Ruth met in North Bay, where he was stationed at the time and were married for 55 years. They moved around Canada with the Military and raised two daughters Fran (Greg) and Sherry (Greg). He took great joy in his grandchildren, Jackson, Holden and Camryn. He also loved his dog Piper. Marven was a devoted family man, watching his grandsons numerous hockey and lacrosse games, playing games and camping with his granddaughter. He loved his grandchildren and they learned that Poppa was a jokester, witty and comedic at times.
Marven served in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1964 – 1999 as a Class ‘A’ Mechanic on heavy and light duty equipment and vehicles. Once he retired from the Military, he continued to work at Base Borden as a Civilian until 2004.
Marven was an outdoors enthusiast. During fishing season, you would often find him on Georgian Bay in his boat “Ruthless” hoping for the Big One! He entered many derbies and had many different fishing partners over the years. His love of the outdoors was passed on to his daughters.
In the fall, more recently, Marven would spend time hunting with the Devil’s Lake fellas (which is where he earned the nickname “Slippers”).
In his spare time, he enjoyed camping and playing guitar and in his later years, golfing and singing with “The Meadowlarks” at the Huron Community Clubhouse.
He was an athlete and always a “great shot”, whether it was darts, basketball, hunting, frisbee golf or corn hole. He was tough to beat!
He had many wonderful friends across the country. And was a helping hand to a number of neighbors and community members in Stayner.
Marven remained strong until the end showing determination and perseverance through all his cancer treatments, appointments and hospital stays. We will miss him every day.
In lieu of flowers please, any donations may be sent to Hospice Georgian Triangle in Collingwood, ON.
