Martin Steven Cartwright Obituary
Martin Steven Cartwright, a man celebrated for his loving nature, selfless spirit, and keen intelligence, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2024, at the age of 68. Born on September 25, 1956, in Solingen, West Germany, Martin’s journey of life took him to many places but ultimately led him to Calgary, Alberta, where he shared his final moments surrounded by the love of his family.
Martin, fondly known by many simply as Marty-man or Hoss; was predeceased by his loving wife Debbie, his parents William & Mary, his in-laws Ivan & Dorothy, as well as his brother-in-law Olaf. Martin was the cherished father of Joseph and Rayeann, as well as Paul (Jeralyn). He took immense pride in his role as a grandfather (Papa) to Chloey, Xander, Payden, Harper, and Emmett. He was a loving brother to both Michael (Carolyn) and Elli. Martin’s devotion extended to his many nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his generous heart. His love story continued later in life with his partner, Karen Webber, with whom he shared a profound and beautiful connection.
With an unwavering work ethic and remarkable skills, Martin built a reputable career as a Water and Waste-Water Supervisor/Operator as well as a Project Manager for various projects around Southern Alberta. He was not just a dedicated worker; he was also an inventor whose creativity knew no bounds, bringing intelligent solutions to complex problems. His professional life was marked by meaningful association involvement, where he formed lasting relationships and contributed significantly to his industry.
Martin thrived on anything related to science fiction, from epic space operas to the intricate lore of Ancient Aliens. His fascination with conspiracy theories often led to intriguing conversations, where his well-articulated thoughts and insights captivated his listeners. A hobbyist at heart, Martin dedicated countless hours to his various pursuits; Some of which included rocketry and constructing model trains in his youth, each piece launching a testament to his meticulous nature and passion for hands-on creation.
Those who knew Martin understood that his fondness for the fantastic was only outshined by his capability to nurture and care for his loves in reality. His soft-spoken and sometimes sarcastic demeanor coupled with an eagerness to help others before himself rendered him an extraordinary individual. He was the stronghold of his family, offering guidance and support with an unwavering resolve that comforted them through life’s challenges and joys alike.
Martin’s presence was a source of warmth and wisdom, and his absence will be profoundly felt by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. As we bid farewell to Martin, we embrace the vast legacy he leaves behind—a tapestry woven with threads of dedication, wonder, and boundless affection.
Martin’s life story is a reminder that the impact of a person stretches far beyond their immediate circle; it resonates in the hearts they’ve touched, the lives they’ve enriched, and the world they’ve left a little better off than when they entered it. Though his physical form is no longer with us, the essence of Martin —an extraordinary father, grandfather, brother, partner, colleague, and friend—will forever echo in the memories and the love he bestowed so generously.
As we come to terms with our loss, we hold tight to the cherished moments, the laughter shared, the knowledge imparted, and the love that stands as his everlasting gift. May we honor Martin’s legacy by embodying the virtues he represented—living each day with compassion, curiosity, and an open heart.
Martin, we thank you for the guiding light you’ve given us; it will continue to shine in the path you’ve left for us to follow. Rest peacefully, dear Martin. Your memory will be treasured always. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. There will be a celebration of life to follow in the spring.
