It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Martin Byrnes at home in Kanata on Sunday, May 26th, 2024, in his 84th year, with his wife of 63 years, Beverley (nee Gould) by his side. Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Johanna (Madigan), inlaws Olga & Henry Gould, and siblings Clement, John (Gloria), Reg, Jackie (James), and Michael. Martin is survived by siblings Terry (Sylvia), James (Jeannie), Noreen Resmer, Patricia Yantha (Ed), as well as in laws Dorothy, Lorraine, Marnie, Gene (Fan), Ken (Marilyn), Lillian (Gerald), Lois, Doug, (June), Sheldon, Dennis (Yolanda), Michael, and Franklin (Kathy), and Sharon (Brian), Glen and Sheila. He will be remembered by numerous nieces and nephews. Martin was born in Latchford Bridge at the homestead and baptised into the Roman Catholic faith. After leaving the farm when he was 16 years old, he worked for the Department of Highways, the Peterborough Police Force and in construction before becoming an employee of NCC for some 25 years. He was an avid softball player and umpire, a devoted Ottawa Senators Fan who worked as an usher at the games for several years, a lifelong member of the Byrnes Hunting Club, and enjoyed the time spent with family and friends. He will be missed by members of the Kanata Sports Club where he was an active member for over 30 years. A Funeral Mass will be held on June 28th, 2024 at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church in Latchford Bridge at 11 AM. Interment will follow at St. Francis De Sales Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Martin’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation if so desired.
