Peacefully after a brief illness, surrounded by her family at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the age of 85 years. Predeceased by her husband Donald. Beloved mother of Cindy (Maurice), Tina (Terry), and Nancy (Tim). Grandmother of Cayla and Maddie. An accomplished crafter, Martha kept busy designing and sewing doll clothes, sharing her creations with the Etsy community. Martha enjoyed nature, taking special delight in her garden, and always watching for the first hummingbirds of spring to appear in the backyard. She spent many afternoons visiting with neighbours on her front porch, holding court over coffee. A lifelong Anglophile, she was fascinated by the personalities and history of the British royal family. An avid reader, she always had at least two books on the go. Most mornings she could be found with a dog on her lap, with another sitting in the chair beside her at the kitchen table; most evenings, when she retired to her bedroom, she had at least one cat on the blanket beside her, and her special friend Finnegan sleeping at the foot of her bed. She will be deeply missed by everyone whose life she touched. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses of Lakeridge Health for their extraordinary kindness. A garden party celebrating Martha’s life will be held at a later date, at Martha’s home in Sunderland.
