After a lengthy battle with cancer, passed peacefully on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Brightshores Health System, Markdale in her 66th year. Beloved wife of 45 years to Murray. Loving mother of Sarah(Tim) Fowler of Petawawa and Stephen of Flesherton. Dear sister of Sherman(Michelle) Wood of Meaford, Rhonda(Dwayne) Ouderkirk of Markdale and Elaine(Gerry) Schwartz of Chatsworth. Cherished sister in-law of Ron(Sonja) Ward of Collingwood and Dennis(Joan) Ward of Owen sound. Predeceased by parents James and Betty Shaw, sister in-law Bonnie Lepard, a nieces and a great niece. Survived by many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her life-long best friend, Jill Harpley of Berkeley.
Marlene was born January 31, 1958 in Meaford. She attended Kindergarten to grade 2 in Meaford, then they moved to the George Street house in Markdale where she attended the old school house, then Beavercrest. She married the love of her life on September 9, 1978. Marlene had a home daycare, helping raise many of the children in grey county, as well as working at Chapman’s Grocery Store in Markdale. After her two beautiful children came along and started into school, Marlene gave her time by volunteering at Beavercrest and watching her kids at the curling rink. Her and Murray were also the caretakers of the Annesley United Church for the last 20 years. She was passionate about her gardening, baking, cooking and her children!
The family will receive friends at Annesley United Church, 82 Toronto Street South, Markdale on Saturday, January 20 from 9:30am until the time of service at 11:00am. Cremation has taken place, spring interment at Markdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Grey Highlands Fire Departments or Centre Grey Health services would be greatly appreciated.
