Mark Stein
Peacefully on March 24, 2024, just before his 90th birthday, at Hillel Lodge in Ottawa, where he has made his home for the last five years. Mark was born on April 1, 1934, in Montreal.
At a young age, he began working with his father in the women’s garment industry and spent most of his life in that business. Since he enjoyed sales and meeting people, he spent a few years later in his life, selling real estate with his partner, Claire Salomon. Mark enjoyed playing golf and tennis, “just relaxing” with his family and friends, and eating his favourite foods, especially Snowdon Deli party sandwiches (only salmon!) and lemon meringue pie.
Mark will be missed by his children Gary (Jackie Lyons), Eve-Lynn (Allen Flaming), and Ian (Elizabeth Kubic); his six grandchildren, Janna (Kate Campbell) and Zachary Flaming (Erin Ring), Maya (Phil James), Ben, Rachele and Tobias Stein; great grandson Louis James; his brothers David (Susan) and Lawrence (Joyce) Stein; and Claire Salomon.
Mark’s family thanks Edna, the personal support workers, and the staff at Hillel Lodge for all the care and compassion they provided to Mark.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 28, at 1:00 p.m. at Jewish Memorial Gardens 6549 Herberts Corners Ro Interment will follow the service. Shiva will commence on Thursday afternoon at 25 Fentiman Avenue, Ottawa, with services at 7:00 p.m. Shiva will continue Friday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. There will also be a gathering of friends and family on Sunday, March 31, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 610 Victoria Avenue, Westmount, Quebec. .
Donations in Mark’s memory to Hillel Lodge would be greatly appreciated by his family.
