Marion «Joyce» Scardaoni 93, of Collingwood/Toronto, passed away November 9, 2024, at Sunset Manor in Collingwood listening to Englebert Humperdinck with family by her side.
Born to the late Melville and Winnifred Robertson (nee Bishop) in Toronto, Zero one Zero one 31 as she said. She created a lifetime of memories with her 2 sisters Bernice Wingrove (Norm) of Collingwood and the Late Shirley Robertson of Toronto.
Joyce’s childhood love of music and dancing led her to Competitive Roller Dance where she competed alongside sister Bernice at Strathcona. Later partnering with a Tall, Handsome, Italian Male at Mutual Street Arena who joined her at Strathcona. (The Late Eli Scardaoni). He would soon thereafter become her life partner, marrying June 26, 1954.
She spent years working in the Financial District in Toronto for Stockbroker Firms Gardner Watson & Davidson Partners. All while she and Eli welcomed «the twins» into their lives in September of 1964. She always said I wanted a boy and a girl and many who knew her, knew she often got her own way.
Favorite Son Melville Scardaoni (Tammy) of Mount Currie British Columbia and Favorite Daughter Nancy Scardaoni Leliveld (Andy) of Collingwood Ontario.
Proud doting Nanna to her only «Favorite» Grandson Koen Leliveld of whom she always said she was so proud to live long enough to watch him grow from a miracle 2 lb. preemie into the healthy confident musician and handsome young man that he is now. Koen was Joyce’s favorite traveling companion and roomie. She was so happy when he turned 16, got his driver’s license and could be her chauffeur.
After the closure of the Collingwood Shipyards in the 80’s, Joyce partnered with sister Bernice to purchase a successful Womens Clothing Boutique «Marg & Angies». It was then Collingwood became home.
Forming a Loving relationship with the late Mari MacMillan of Mari’s Dressmaking (Gaynor & Malerie) the inception of the «Friday Night Club» began. It was there they consumed «youth juice», reminisced, laughed a lot and often planned the next potential trip. Joyce LOVED to travel and said YES to any trip, anywhere, anytime! «Making Memories» was her motto and that she truly accomplished.
She sure loved all her traveling comrades. Her Mom Winnie, Bernice & Norm, Virginia & Vic, Shirley, Cousin Jim & BFF Gerry, Mari MacMillan, Dawn Strandholdt,..and even known to tag along with many of her daughter and son in laws Kiteboarding Trips. She never minded a windy beach. With her best friend (Daughter Nancy) they would whisk away to China for a couple nights to go shopping and walk the Great Wall. They experienced the Pyramids in Egypt, attended the Russian Ballet in Russia, Cruised the Atlantic, the Pacific and the Baltic. Enjoyed beaches all over the world, as well as weekends to France, England and many road trips to the US Shopping. Joyce NEVER said NO to travel. Cuba was one of her favorites which began in the 70s with Eli and the twins. Fittingly her last trip was to Varadero Cuba December 2021.
Joyce started a list of her visited countries and was always so amazed at all she had seen and done.
With no regrets and nothing on her bucket list, she leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. She often said, «When I die, I’d like to go to the smoking section». Although she quit smoking many many years ago, she still smiled when she said that. So, it’s with a smile that her family and friends left on this earth hope she enjoyed her First-Class seat in the smoking section and she’s continuing her adventures with all who passed before her. It’s truly 4 o’clock somewhere she would say with a Big Sip and an……»ahhhhh that’s Bloody Good.»
Joyce’s wishes of «no funeral» will be honoured but ask you to simply enjoy a glass of your favorite «youth juice» on any day of the week at 4 o’clock and say……»ahhhh that’s Bloody Good»!!!
She also requested that she be cremated, and her ashes sprinkled in Georgian Bay and any ocean throughout the world. Her thoughts were if any of her family and friends were enjoying some «youth juice» by the water and you happen to see a speck in your glass your glass you can smile and say.. “ahhh that’s Joyce.”
Her family would like to express their gratitude beyond words to her Doctor Marion Arthur who went above and beyond to support Joyce and her family. For everyone at Campbell House Hospice Georgian Triangle for the absolutely exceptional care during her extended stay and for the thoughtful care given by the staff at Sunset Manor in her final days.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations in memory of Joyce to Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation.
