Marion Magdelena Ellanora Golem (nee Lorenz) passed away peacefully at Hanover & District hospital on November 3, 2024 in her 93rd year, with her eldest son by her side.
Marion was born on Sept 20, 1932 in Brant Township to parents William Lorenz and Edith (Pegelo) Lorenz. She was the youngest of four siblings. On June 12, 1954 she was married to Wilfred Golem at St. John’s Elmwood. Marion loved being outdoors! In her teenage years she drove the horses on the hayloader and later drove the tractor for haying and harvest. On their farm near Chesley, she enjoyed milking cows and looking after the hens, as well as single-handedly growing most of the food for her family in her extensive garden.
After retiring from dairy farming in 1977, Marion worked at the “Looking Glass” ladies wear store in Chesley until it closed. She and Wilfred moved to The Village in Hanover in October 2007. Here she was active in euchre, solo and shuffleboard as well as booking the monthly entertainment and she continued with her love of gardening.
Marion was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Chesley, St. Mark’s E.L.W., Chesley Seniors and Sconecrafters.
Beloved wife of the late Wilfred Golem for 60 years. Loving mother of Dennis(Tammy)of Waterloo and Don(Lisa) of Goderich. Grandmother of Scott, Christopher, Jeremy and Travis and great grandmother of Adele and Kai. Predeceased by her parents William and Edith(Pegelo)Lorenz, her husband Wilfred(2014) and her siblings, Hilda(Arthur) Weppler, Elva(Clarence) Weirmeir , and brother Clarence(Marlene) and Wilfred’s family – brothers Norman(Irene), Clarence(Edna), Elmer(Marguerite), Harvey(Mary) and sister Madeline(Elmer) Pegelo and their spouses. (She was the last surviving member of her generation in both families).
Visitation will be held at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Chesley on Thursday November 7, 2024 at 11:00AM followed by the funeral service at 12:00PM. Interment in Chesley cemetery. Donations to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church or the Hanover & District Hospital would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
