Marie Power Obituary
It is with great sadness and grief that we the family announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Marie J Power, on Wednesday, July 10th, 2024, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, at the age of 79.
Marie was born, along with her twin sister Louise, on April 23rd, 1945, in North Sydney. She was the daughter of the late William and Bernadette Skinner. Marie was well known and loved as a Certified Nurses Aid at the Northside General Hospital for numerous years. She was known for her sense of humour and hard work. Marie was also well known for her countless volunteer work that she did for St. Joseph Parish.
Marie is survived by her longtime friend and partner Gary Crowther, her daughter Jean, Vancouver; her sons Daniel (Sandy), Texas, and Eric (Lisa), Sydney Mines: and her beloved grandchildren David, Haley, Rachel, Jack, Liam, Claire, Owen, Aidan, Micheal, Daniel, Patrick, Eric Jr., Ellie, Evelyn, Emma Jean and Edward. She is also survived by her sisters Louise Ivey and Patricia McGean; brothers Joe Skinner and Lorne (Linda) Skinner.
Marie was predeceased by her husband Daniel, son Brian, and brothers Harold and Jack.
A very special thank you to all the staff on 4D, IMCU and ICU, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their compassion and care during this difficult time.
There will be a Funeral Mass for Marie on Tuesday, July 16, at 2:00 pm, at St Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Father Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. A Celebration of Life will follow at Branch 19 Royal Canadian Legion, Archibald Ave, North Sydney. Arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
