Surrounded by the love of her family, Marie Clark of Brockville died Friday, March 10, 2023 at the Brockville General Hospital. She had been a patient there for five weeks but had been in poor health for several months. She was 93 years old.
Harriet ‘Marie’ Tallmire was born May 7, 1929 in Brockville, Ontario, the daughter, and only child of John Frank Tallmire and his wife the former Cora Della Sayeau. She was raised in Escott and Mallorytown until the age of ten, being taught in a one-room school house by her own father. When her parents moved to Brockville in 1939, she attended Victoria School for Grades 7 and 8 and then graduated from Brockville Collegiate Institute in Commercial Studies in 1945 at the age of sixteen. She married Ronald ‘Blondie’ Wilkins Clark at the United Pentecostal Brockville Tabernacle on September 2, 1950 located on Buell Street.
Marie worked as a secretary in Brockville for Mutual Life (1945-1951), J.A. Johnston Company (1954- 1957) and Stewart’s Stationary Store (1967-1979). She held the position of Historian for the National Secretaries Association in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. She also was a long-time member of Brockville’s Highway Pentecostal Church, serving for many years as a Sunday School Teacher and as an active member of the Women’s Missionary Council and “Young At Heart”. Marie was an avid reader and keen photographer and she demonstrated her artistic talents and enviable “green thumb” in her beautiful flower gardens. Her main interests were always her home and family.
Marie is survived by her two daughters, Valerie Elizabeth Quick (Peter) and Janice Elaine Moran (Richard) all of Brockville. She leaves two grandsons and their wives Daniel Quick (Allison Cherry) of Brockville and Clark Moran (Kimberlee) of Abbotsford, B.C. as well as her much loved two great-grandsons Evan Quick of Brockville and Ayo Moran of Abbotsford, B.C. Predeceased by her parents, her husband, her husband’s parents, Ada (Wilkins) and William Clark, all formerly of Brockville and her two brothers-in-law Earl William Clark (Betty) formerly of Brockville and Ernest Alfred Clarke formerly of Kingston.
Family and Friends are invited to attend a celebration of Marie’s life at Highway Pentecostal Church, 800 Stewart Blvd, Brockville, ON K6V 5T4 on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Rick Lott officiating. Her two Grandsons, Dan Quick and Clark Moran giving Eulogies, and a close friend, Sandra Gill sharing personal reflections. Honourary pallbearers are Peter and Dan Quick, Rick and Clark Moran, Carlie Running and Dale Todd.
All are invited to join the family in the Church’s reception room immediately following the service. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 2451 County Road 15, Maitland. Arrangements entrusted to the Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James Street East, Brockville.
